As he prepares to enter the 2016 presidential race on July 21, Ohio Gov. John Kasich is dusting off the playbook of failed 2012 presidential contender Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who tried to secure the GOP nomination by badmouthing his own partys voters. Like Huntsman, Kasich is setting himself up to win the media and lose the primary. Liberal commentator Ed Kilgore recently argued that, despite a gigantic GOP field with more than a dozen credible candidates, the contenders are all essentially trying to get to the right of one another. Youd have to say that the shadow of Huntsman 12 is pretty big; nobody wants to go there at all, even if the minority of self-identified GOP moderatesand there are even some who self-identify as liberalsis a tempting target for someone trying to get into the mid-single-digits in polls.

How's Linda Grahamesty doin'?
Which means after NH he’ll leave the race and endorse Jebbie.....
Kasich has been crowing about how many democrats voted for him as Governor, like it's something to be proud of.
Gopee has a history of that. And supporting candidate who will divide the opposition of their authority so their candidate can sneak thru
Good comparison except for the fact that Huntsman actually won a single delegate (NH), didn’t he?
Politico hit piece. I haven’t crossed Kasich off my list yet. Don’t be surprised if he makes the cut in the debate.
Isn’t he the man that saved ACA?
C19 you are wrong. After he mucks up the Ohio primary with the “That’s my Gov!” vote, thereby giving Jeb a winner take all victory with 16% of the vote, he will drop out.
Kasich’s reward for throwing Ohio to Jeb in the primaries will be the Veep slot.
Yeah, I see your point. But, Kasich will get good press when he announces because of his perceived competence as a congressman and a governor. He’s the only candidate who can make the claim he was successful both inside and outside Washington.
You’re out of your mind.
I live in Ohio and after he by-passed the legislature to expand Medicaid, many people who like him previously, now hate his guts.
And he comes across as a flakey, holier-than-thou, little twerp.
The old Kasich- would definitely be a good candidate. But is he anything like that now?
"When I meet St. Peter I can tell him I expanded Medicaid."
What a third-rate, self-important little mutt.
I agree.
The GOP convention is in Cleveland so RINOs Kasich and Portman will be center stage pushing for Jeb.
I could puke at the thought.
He’s a RINO cheerleader.
The only thing you said that I disagree with is that I’m out of my mind.
My impression too.
The kind of Republican who directs most of his weak-kneed contempt at other Republicans more conservative than himself.
He won’t last that long.
