Adding more guns to a population that is highly criminal does not reduce violence.*
Good people with guns stop bad people with guns.
If a thug knows that everyone is armed, he won’t attack you.
That’s why mass shootings occur where the shooter knows guns aren’t allowed. Like the nut who drove past several theaters until he found one that was a “Gun Free Zone”.
Everyone is armed in Switzerland. Not much crime there.
Switzerland is a low crime nation. Guns do not generate low crime in a high-criminality population.
To carry this idea to its logical conclusion, let’s introduce guns into the prison population.
Does anybody think this would reduce violence in prison?
When used by a good guy, guns reduce crime. When used by a bad guy, they increase it. This is because guns are only a tool, not magical instrument that generate good or evil.
Or, to take another approach. Let’s imagine a highly violent population of tribesmen, who kill each other at a high rate with spears and bows.
Give every tribesman a gun and ammo. Will the death rate go up or down?
