[3/25/15] Ted Cruz on similarities to Sen. Obama: 'He was basically a backbencher,' I am not

According to Sen. Ted Cruz, he and President Obama's Senate tenures are nothing alike.

After an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal Monday negatively compared the two — calling Cruz someone "who disdains his colleagues and lacks executive action" — he was ready to fight back against that notion Tuesday night.

Cruz, who declared his run for the 2016 Republican presidential ticket this week, has only served one term in the Senate — mirroring Obama, who had only one term under his belt when he ran and was elected in 2008.

"There are marked differences between my background and Barack Obama's," Cruz, one of Texas' two Republican senators, said on Fox News. "In his time in the Senate, he was basically a backbencher. […] In my time in the Senate, there were a lot of faults I had, but nobody would accuse me of being a backbencher."

Specifically, Cruz mentioned his opposition to Obamacare, his attempts to stop Obama's executive actions on immigration and his support for Israel during negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over the counter's nuclear program.

He also did more before his time in the Senate than Obama, Cruz argued.

"Unlike Barack Obama, before the Senate, I wasn't a community organizer," Cruz said. "I spent five and a half years as the solicitor general of Texas, the chief lawyer of the state, leading the state in appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court … and over and over again we led and won national conservative fights."

Fox News' Megyn Kelly wasn't sold. "What have you actually accomplished?" she countered.

Cruz said he has been "stopping bad things from happening," specifically, his actions protecting the Second Amendment from the Obama administration.

The feckless fool on the hill was a bench warmer then, and continues to this day, afraid to play hard ball.

My yard boy had accomplished more than Obama before his run for office.

Without being born black with an Islamic name, Obama would be have been giving bus tours in Hawaii — especially with a “B” average in high school.

I have a hard time believing anyone would be stupid enough to try to compare Obama favorably based on his record in the U. S. and or Illinois Senate.

Too lazy to do that IMO. I take one look at the guy and start wondering who fudged his academic record to get him into the schools he attended. And then I wonder who paid for it.

My learnings on the subject ...

He got into Harvard Law School because of some well connected muzzie. This muzzie led a letter writing campaign to the Harvard faculty. This muzzie is also connected to the Saudi royals.

Who paid for him to be a community organizer? I’ve read the funding came either directly or indirectly through Catholic Charities.

I think the Democrats should be coke, moderates should be diet Coke and the Republicans should be “coke Zero”

Sadly, each give us more leftist programs. I don’t want to confuse the issue. We get more or less Leftist issues.

Then we wonder why we don’t move the nation back to the right.

There’s only one way to do that.

Elect someone who won’t impose even a few Leftist programs.

If we’re filling a barrel with the same liquid, what do we have when it’s full? We have 100% Coke (Leftist policy).

Fill it with 7 Up part of the time, and you won’t have full Leftist policy.

Sadly, the Coke model is pretty accurate.
