VIDEO: Furious Rotherham taxi drivers threaten strike action over new regulations in wake of abuse scandal . [ Full title ]

...

More than 100 furious Rotherham taxi drivers have threatened strike action over new regulations designed to combat child sexual exploitation.

A demonstration was held outside Rotherham Town Hall this afternoon, as Commissioner Mary Ney confirmed her intention to introduce the new policy from July 6.

The new licensing regime will require all drivers to install CCTV into their vehicles in the next three months.

They will also have to demonstrate they are a ‘fit and proper person’ to hold a licence, with licence holders needing to have a BTEC qualification and a satisfactory level of English.

The shake-up comes after the Jay report revealed the ‘prominent role’ of Rotherham taxi drivers in the abuse of children, while the follow-up Casey inquiry said Rotherham Council needed to ‘get their house in order and regulate taxis effectively’ due to the ‘well-publicised link between taxis and child sexual exploitation in Rotherham that has cast a long shadow over the vast majority of law-abiding drivers’.

Interesting that Muslim child molesting taxi drivers and American police officers have in common that they don’t want to be held accountable for their actions.

Translation of Taxi driver’s actions: “We demand to be allowed to molest your children in accordance to Mohammed and Aisha!”

Did they say who those taxi drivers were? Were their names William Coling and Robert Carter, or Mohammad Choujary and Abdullah Khan?

This sounds like the council created the problem in the first place by putting pressure on the police to be PC and not arrest people for child molestation and rape.

I respectfully disagree.

It’s among the most misplaced and ridiculous comments I’ve seen here in days.

There is a real, systematic, problem of organized abuse of teen and sometimes preteen girls going on in that town. Linking every cop in America philosophically to degenerate racist pedophiles is beyond the pale.

I used to live in Sacramento with bad cops and now I live in Wyoming with an awesome Park County Sheriff's Department! You really don't know how bad you have it until you have it good!

You must be a cop, so It’s appropriate for you to defend your “brother officers.” That said, I am up to here with the arrogance and wonton disregard for the law and our Constitution that pervades too much of what passes for law enforcement today. Earlier today, here on FR there was a post about a Florida cop who ran down and killed a citizen on a scooter while he was distracted using his car’s computer. The PD, DA, and it looked to me like the judge, colluded to set this asshole with badge who negligently killed someone free with a $166.00 ticket and his chief sending him to driving school. Tell me how that would have gone down if it had been a citizen who had committed this act? Furthermore, it is almost a daily occurrence here on FR where a LEO has done something illegal and the process of justifying it is starting. Lastly go have a look at Kozacenko v. State of California. This poor bastard was beaten nearly to death by a CHP officer back in 2011 and only now is the state finally looking to settle. Only now, with the advent of the ability of the average citizen to record the actions of the cops, are we finally seeing the dimensions of our problem with our cops. I support good law enforcement, and my hat’s off to those cops who “serve and protect,” but there are damned few of them around as I see it!

Megan, I’m still here in CA ( down in Danville). Even here, our cops misbehave routinely. We are a contract town, so we have the CoCo County Sheriff running our PD. Last year we had a cop actually go to jail for his crimes. Seems he was working with a PI who was working for a divorce lawyer. The game was, follow a divorcing husband into a bar with a couple of floozies who were “anxious” to take him to “their place” for some hot tub “fun.” After the guy was drunk, the cop was called to be outside the bar to follow the guy an arrest him for DUI. The good new ( this time) was that the cop, the PI and the lawyer, all went to jail. We also “lost” a cop from our department who was part of the Central County Drug Task Force. Seems he was stealing drugs and selling them along with dealing in illegal firearms. So when these self-righteous people here want us to all “honor” our LEOs, I am not willing to offer blanket support, because I’ve seen, and continue to see too much abuse of their authority.
