A Civil War-era soldier who received the Medal of Honor will be buried with full military honors after his ashes were discovered in an unmarked, communal crypt.
Sgt. Charles Schroeter will be buried at Miramar National Center in July, nearly a century after he died, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Didn’t think they were writing about a Confederate soldier from the headline.
Most likely try and take his Medal because he was a bigot.
He is the first Medal of Honor winner to be buried at Miramar National Cemetery. Miramar Cemetery (in San Diego) is fairly new. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery (in San Diego located on Point Loma) filled up about a year ago. Fort Rosecrans has the second most Medal of Honor winners after Arlington.
He was among the members of the 1st and 8th Cavalry, under the commands of Lieutenant William H. Winters and Captain Reuben Bernard, who pursued an Apache raiding party led by Cochise that had massacred a stage coach en route to Tucson and attacked a group of cowboys in the Sulphur Springs Valley on October 5, 1868. The cavalry detachment pursued the Apache to Cochise’s stronghold in the Chiricahua Mountains where they did battle on October 20, 1869.
Kinda easy to enlist foreigners to kill Americans - many of whom emigrated pre-mayflower.
That would be many of whom were decedents of “pre-mayflower” settlers.
