Rush may have been thinking about Catholic JFK's surprising win in the West Virginia primary against Humphrey.
During the coverage of the primary there was this Cincinnati Post headline (I swear it's true only the words and punctuation may not be exact).
The 1960 West Virginia primaries Democrats Kennedy and Humphrey began as a kind of "sex appeal" contest which Kennedy quickly dominated Humphrey.

Re the Stock Market “glitch”....
I just flashed back to the line in that “2012” End-of-the-World movie:

(Just checked on the market, it’s apparently back up and the DOW is going “up”. Guess the Treasury plugged in an extra QE contribution during that Pause.....)
