A real 3rd party is the only recourse I see

There are at least a dozen third parties, many of which have decent beliefs, yet none has even one elected candidate in a national office.

Not. One.

And not one seems to be capable of breaking the 1% of the vote threshold in successive elections. The only party which has ANY conservatives in national office is the (R) party. Cruz, Lee, Walker, Palin, none of these are working towards a third party. A third party sounds nice, but it's a pipe dream peopled by mostly (not all) cranks and serious head cases.

The best way would be a calculated long plan to take over the (R) party that has gone off the rails, the party that has totally lost its way, in the midst of a culture that has entirely lost its way. If we can work on changing the culture, and taking back the party, there is hope. If not, third partyism would devolve into the circular firing squad that is so prevalent here on FR.

It would be like watching the scene of "the dwarves is for the dwarves" in the last Narnia Chronicle, the dwarves shooting the good guys as much as the bad.

Sorry, with all due respect, third party is not going to work, it's not the way to go.

Personally know that when you attend a wedding you are witnessing and promising support and witnessing to enforce the oath that they are undertaking.

It's not just sitting in a seat and watching.

When asked to come to a gay wedding, say "I follow my church rules that marriage is between one woman and one man only, thank you" if your church has those rules.

If not, I might think of changing churches right now. Please consider the PCA which has it as a central 'plank'.

We are very seriously thinking of getting a place down there. I have a house here I need to sell and then will buy something there.

The tradition wedding ritual is fairly clear:

“Dearly Beloved, we are gathered together in the sight of God and of these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony...”

Clear: man and woman
Clear: matrimony - root word “mother”;i.e., the institution for protection of mothering.
Clear: “gives this woman to be married to this man”; i.e., passing the responsibility for that protection of mothering from one clan to another clan.
Clear: “God”. Not just a promise between a man and a woman, but uniquely witnessed by God Himself.

and of these witnesses

Correction: 'and IN THE PRESENCE of these witnesses.'

Got ahead of myself there. :>)

In which case, it’s obvious that I called a viable 3rd party a virtual impossibility. (An interstellar drive not likely to be invented anytime soon.)

It was your first answer. I addressed that part.

As to your qualifier, I guess I was agreeing with you.

Like I said, and it's unfortunately true, third parties are mostly for cranks and lunatics.

It nearly worked for Teddy Roosevelt, and did work for the Republicans due to unique circumstances....most of the Whigs rebranding as Republicans.

That's true.

Right now there is no one quite capable of doing that.

There is a need to take away the power of the current GOP leadership. At this point, with our circumstances, third party is not a viable way to achieve that.

A third party can be a spoiler, but I don’t think it can be a winner.

It would be good to found a “Social Democrat Party” and peel votes from Hillary.

That 3rd party idea could work.
