I don’t know why these states don’t just draw up a standard civil union contract and ditch the idea of a marriage license all together. Anyone gets the legal benefits. No one is ‘married’ as far as the state is concerned. There’s no religious role in a civil union. It’s simply a legal contract.

They don’t want that. The Church is their real target.

Proud to say little ol’ Rowan County KY (Morehead) still not issuing any marriage licenses even after protesting and being picked on by NBC national news.

Doesn’t matter what level it’s at. It’s always been an attack on Christianity.

Hold a wedding for the ones in your congregation only.

When we Christians consider how the barack homobamas are acting out of their hatred for Christianity, just remember how Jesus, Stephen, Simon Peter, and Paul all were attacked by the enemy, but through them, the Father always ultimately prevailed.

I’m struggling with my own hatred for these enemies, and I always have to remind myself how these four conducted themselves when attacked: with courage and without an ounce of hatred.

I understand that. I am saying in light of the ruling, why do’t these conservative states get out of the marriage business all together. Just not provide a perversion of the concept of marriage completely. Provide civil unions for both married couples and gay couples that are equal in the eyes of the law for taxes, benefits and health/death rights. Marriage is a church relationship, not a government relationship to begin with. Lets return to that.

That’s exactly what should be done - the state interesting in having the marriage license to begin with to promote families is now supposedly “unconstitutional” and therefore the purpose no longer exists - the legislatures should repeal them. Marriage existed before there were any statutes or laws and no “same-sex” marriages existed then, either, because such a thing does not exist by definition of the word...the current argument that the laws were created not to set up a governing system for an institution that already existed but were to be “discriminatory” “Hateful”, etc. are completely nonsensical.

That is the correct response. Since the Supreme Court struck down the statutes by which marriage licenses were issued, there is no legitimate statutory authority for granting a marriage license to anyone.

Unless and until the legislatures of the 50 states change their laws to conform with the SCOTUS decision, the States have no authority to issue any marriage licenses.

Another very valid point - essentially the licensing system requiring a husband and a wife were declared to be unconstitutional so they no longer exist. Two people of the same sex cannot be husband and wife, and the court ruled the practice of giving these licenses was illegal, thus, they no longer exist.

the legislatures should repeal them

The Supreme Court already repealed those laws. The States are currently issuing licenses with no legal authority to do so. The laws set forth the one man one woman rule and according to the SCOTUS those laws are unconstitutional. Hence there is no law that allows states to issue any marriage licenses.

When Thomas More resigned as Chancellor, and retired to his home to live in poverty and isolation, the King and his men COULD not leave him alone. They hunted everyone down with the Oath of Supremacy.

The gay activists will not let anyone off the hook. It’s going to be “marriage,” and not any sort of weaselly substitute. It’s NOT about the BENEFITS. Only a tiny handful of sodomites actually want to get “married.” It’s about the WORD, “marriage.”

Yes, it’s an attack on Christianity, but millions of “Christians” are so uneducated that they can’t see it.

This is an open attack on Christianity but Islam and Buddhism also disapprove of gay sex.

You are very confused, both historically and philosophically. As is Rand Paul.

Marriage is NOT primordially a “religious” institution. It is a NATURAL institution. It was instituted by God—but through his design of human nature, not originally through any revelation.

There is NO SUCH THING as “civil marriage,” as distinct from “religious marriage.” They are one and the same thing or reality: marriage.

Archbiship Cupich of Chicago provided further evidence of his unfitness to serve as Catholic bishop when he said the other day that the Supreme Court had redefined “civil marriage,” not “the Sacrament of Matrimony.”

The Sacrament of Matrimony is NOT a reality distinct from “civil marriage.” There is ONLY marriage. The Sacrament of Matrimony exists whenever two baptized persons enter into marriage. The Sacrament of Matrimony IS the marriage they have entered into. (This, btw, is true of the marriages of Protestants, even though they have been deprived by their churches of an understanding that marriage is a sacrament.)

The government CANNOT get out of the “business of marriage” because marriage is a natural reality, and because spouses AND CHILDREN have CLAIMS IN JUSTICE to the protection of the law.

The Church cannot sit idly by while “civil marriage” is destroyed, because “civil marriage” IS the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Right. No more weddings-on-demand with write-your-own vows for idiots for whom the church is nothing more than background scenery in the photos. A wedding is not about the dress.
