“How does it affect you?” is a defensive question offered by those who attempt to disarm their opponents.

How did Nazis killing Jews affect most Americans in 1942? How did southern plantation owners owning slaves affect most people who lived in the New York in 1859?

The idea that if something immoral doesn’t personally affect you then you have no business opposing it carries the stench of self-centered narcissism.

Anyone can oppose something that causes them harm, it is moral discipline that allows us to oppose an evil that does not reach us.

That was a wonderful statement. I'm going to use it and remember it. Along those line, the next time someone says "how does it effect you", ask them how it effects them if you use the word 'nigger', then take it from there.
