Cruz Tries to Prove a Conservative Can Win
Time ^ | 6/28/2015 | Alex Altman

....As the sun begins to dip into the surrounding cornfields, Ted Cruz climbs onto the stage to make his pitch for the presidency.

The centerpiece of Cruz’s stump speech these days is a denunciation of what the Texas Republican calls the “Washington cartel.” This is the senator’s term for the alliance of powerful interests and pliable politicians who, he says, conspire to control the country at the expense of the people. K Street lobbyists are a big part of Cruz’s cartel. So are big corporations, career politicians, the liberal media and the leaders of both parties. The newest members are the apostates on the Supreme Court, whose back-to-back rulings on Obamacare and same-sex marriage Cruz condemned at each stop on his most recent two-day swing through Iowa.

Cruz is known as a bomb thrower, and his most trip to Iowa illustrated why. He ripped rivals for the 2016 nomination for feigning outrage while privately “popping champagne” at the Court’s ruling. “They stand for nothing!” he spat. He whacked party leaders for supporting illegal “amnesty.” He called for a constitutional amendment that would force Supreme Court justices to stand in elections. He even slammed Chief Justice John Roberts, a longtime friend from conservative legal circles.

“You’re not calling balls and strikes,” Cruz told TIME, invoking the umpire metaphor that Roberts deployed at his confirmation hearings to describe the role of a justice. “You’ve joined a team.”

The important thing to understand about Cruz is that nothing he says is by accident. For all his florid rhetoric, he is as disciplined a speaker as any in the presidential field. His stump speech—delivered without notes or teleprompters—is carefully honed (snip)

I wish he’d start moving up in polls...I know it’s super early but I’d still like him to have some movement.

I’m all in for Cruz.

I want Cruz, I’ll accept Walker too if it comes to that.

As a last resort I’ll accept Trump rather than the pitiful Jeb Bush. :-/

For the election I will vote for whoever is the republican candidate... even if that means swallowing very hard and pulling the lever for Jeb. eeewwww :-(

Not me!

If Jeb is the nominee, I'll do exactly what I did in 2012 with Mitt "The Progressive" Romney; Find a third-party candidate that actually represents my values.

Jeb is part of the same group of traitors that populates the GOP-Establishment and wants to force-feed us Amnesty, Common-Core, Obamacare, etc.

I can't believe ANY conservative would suggest what you just did!

I will readily admit that pulling the lever for Jeb is only very slightly better than just staying home election night or casting a symbolic vote for a candidate I like but who is not even running.

I'm not talking about a symbolic vote or a vote for some candidate that is not running.

I'm talking about voting for an actual, God-Fearing, Bible-Believing Christian who is also a constitution conservative.

With your approach, you are voting for the enemy.

I pray every day that if it is God’s will that Cruz win it all.

The strategy of the Mainstream Republicans seems to be coming evident. In Virginia, the Mainstream Republicans went to a form of open primary which allows de facto Democrats to choose the Republican Candidate and then vote Liberal in the general election, thus screwing the conservative wing of the party.
If Senator Cruz or any real bona fide conservative begins to become a credible winner of the nomination, the Mainstream Republicans will open up more primaries to Democrats.
I think Senator Cruz can win the general election. I doubt that he can win the Republican nomination.

I haven’t seen any conservative really run, and mean it, since Reagan. Then I was only 7.

And every primary election cycle FR goes through the same self destructive screed of beating each other to death before a single vote has been cast.

One guy offers an opinion and another comes on to call them out as "voting for the enemy".

Before everyone pisses down each others leg, can we wait to self flagellate until the herd is thinned out just a bit?

At least Trump was smart enough to not buy McConnell’s blather on TPA.

I think the backup is a brokered convention.

That may well be true.
The bottom line, however, is still the same.
No conservative, no way, no how will be the Republican nominee.

Nope.

If you are advocating for someone who cannot win, or should not win from a conservative perspective, then expect flak.

We are not looking for a Republican to win, but a conservative.

This whole winnowing process is to remove the undesireables, the vanity candidates (Carson), those who are just there to keep a real conservative from winning like Rubio.

Don't expect anyone to take it easy on anyone else who is advocating for someone who cannot win or should not win.
