There are definitely a significant number of people who believe outrageous lies. It’s rather stunning to watch.
And more than a little scary.
Just a few days ago a man I don’t know well at all but someone whom I would have thought had some understanding of the world asked me why we have “this electoral college” deciding presidential elections now. He said the way he remembered it was that the electoral college was only supposed to get involved if there was a tie or something like that. I was stunned to say the least and wondered just how to reply, I finally just told him that we have always had an electoral college. He seemed to accept that but acted doubtful. I have had a lot of people who claim to be staunch conservatives tell me that we should have popular vote elections for president and do away with the electoral college. I usually ask them if they are aware that if we had done so twenty years ago Al Gore would have been elected in 2000. That usually makes them stop and think.
