CHARLESTON, S.C. (CBS Atlanta)– A North Charleston police officer was fired from his position after posting a photo on Facebook featuring the Confederate flag.
WCIV reports the post, which featured the officer wearing Confederate flag boxer shorts, went viral Thursday after it was posted a few days earlier.
The police chief terminated Sgt. Shannon Dildine’s position, saying the photo questioned his ability to improve trust and instill confidence between citizens and officers.
“Your posting in this manner led to you being publicly identified as a North Charleston Police officer and associated both you and the Department with an image that symbolizes hate and oppression to a significant portion of the citizens we are sworn to serve,” Police Chief Eddie Driggers wrote, as reported by WCIV.
Dildine has ten days to make an appeal.
The action comes as the heated debate over Old South symbols continues after last week’s killing of nine worshipers at a black church in Charleston.
So he s*** on a confederate flag?
From now on, underwear will be worn on the outside. And changed, every hour on the half hour. We will be sending people around to check.
Odd that the nearly naked selfie wasn’t considered a compromise of his authority.
He’ll make more money driving a Peterbilt anyway.
People with tattoos can get job in law enforcement provided they “sleeve up” and keep them covered on the job (even if that means wearing long sleeves during the summer).
Maybe there should be some appraisal of each and every tattoo to “make sure” there aren’t any politically uncomfortable ones.
And another one learns the hard way.

The word ‘hate’ is a very over-used word in our culture today? Did slave owners really ‘hate’ their slaves? I don’t that’s the right word.
Now do most leftist ‘hate’ the south? Yep! Even the ones living in the south.

To post yourself in ANY underwear online as an officer who is supposed to be held to a higher standard shows poor judgment IMO. I bet there were already other issues. This is probqbly just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

No matter how many times you say it, it just doesn’t register.
The Battle Flag does not represent ‘hate and opression’, regardless how large a percentage of your population is ignorant. And in many cases stupid.
It represents defiance to tyranny and a fight for independence.
Instead of firing NC’s finest, why doesn’t the Police Chief spend his energy educating the people instead of cow-towing to the false narrative?
