NYPD launches new community policing plans

The New York City Police Department unveiled a new policing strategy Thursday meant to keep crime low while also improving the at-times strained relationship between officers and the communities they serve.

The program, dubbed “One City: Safe and Fair Everywhere,” is being launched after an 18-month department review by Police Commissioner William Bratton. He declared the plan will give New Yorkers “a more intimate” relationship with police officers by fixing cops in particular neighborhoods, allowing them to get to know local residents.

Some officers will now patrol the same beat day after day, building a rapport with residents who would soon become familiar faces. Those officers will also be freed up from chasing 911 calls so they can instead build trust, something that Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio believe will improve locals’ opinions of officers, which in turn could lead them to be cooperative with investigations. …

This means that “community leaders” will have to be informed in advance about any pre-planned police activity, including drug raids, child custody checks, welfare fraud, etc.

We can expect that crime statistics will show very significant improvements as a result.

I'm reminded of Odungo's ROE in Iraq and Afghanistan which resulted in nearly 4 TIMES the number of U.S. troops killed than while Bush was President.

My advice to NYPD is.. HIT THE DECK!

Rudy adopted and Doomberg,to his credit, continued a policy that made NYC just about the safest big city in the nation.Along comes Comrade Wilhelm who decides that "the community" needs the ability to...well,you know.

The last thing that NYC needed was an openly Maoist mayor...but they got one.

Rudy and Bloomberg did a GREAT JOB on crime in NYC, bringing its level WELL BELOW every big US city, I believe. The murder rate is actually lower than many states and is (really was) lower than they ever recorded since compiling statistics. And with that, the economy grew like gangbusters.

The big problem is that the latest generation of people now voting think this is “normal” and therefore doesn’t depend on the aggressiveness of the policing. So they voted for the person that makes them “feel good” instead.

Now they’re about learn just how bad it was. I sure hope these people have a lot of money for cab fare - they may get away with walking home at 2 AM a few times, but the stories will again start to pour in, and they will VERY QUICKLY figure out that walking alone in NYC, late at night, will again be playing Russian Roulette with your life.
