60 year old newsflash for the Left.

The Segregationists were Dixiecrats which means Democrats!

The racists like Algore’s dad and others with a big Dumb D after their names were the same racists that wanted slavery.

Now the same party of racism wants to enslave us through the use of Obamacare.

P.S. The civil war was about States Rights until Lincoln used slavery as PR tool to help his agenda mid-war.

The War Against the States was about states rights from start to finish.

It was the South that first tried to use slavery as a PR tool. They accused Lincoln of trying to attack slavery because they knew abolition was unpopular in the North and they thought it would undermine Lincoln's war effort, which it did.

The Republicans were never identified in any way, shape or manner with the battle standard of Northern Virginia.

Southern culture, on the other hand, is greatly invested with the reverence and historical meaning of the symbolism of what the flag stood for (states’ rights, and the determination of what was in the best interests of a particular state, in contrast to what may have been a purely Federal interest).

The slavery issue was, rightly or wrongly, considered to be a determination of the individual state, and for many years, the Democrats DEFENDED that interpretation. It was the Republican party that came along and kicked that hornets’ nest, and we saw the effects with the Civil War (or War of Northern Aggression) and its aftermath which lasted fully a hundred years.

But states’ rights are still not a decided issue. The right of a state to secede from the Union has never been determined in a court of law. It was suppressed by force of arms, but there was never a ruling from any court that had jurisdiction to decide the matter.
