The 2016 Presidential Election season is underway and most of the major polls and media outlets are touting Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush as the frontrunners for their respective political parties. They are, in fact, the most widely known candidates so this makes sense. Doesnt it? Well, an interesting thing is happening in internet searches. A few days ago, the folks over at Google released a spreadsheet containing the search interest of the 2016 Presidential candidates for the past 3 months.
Interestingly enough, the most searched candidates were Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz. The two are first and second in 39 of 50 states. Jeb Bushs highest ranking is number 5, in the states of Maine and Vermont. Here is a table of the average search interest for each candidate:

I am not stressing over any polls right now, especially the total meaningless national Wall Street Journal poll yesterday. The first primary is still 6 months away. Right now what matters are
1. How much money the candidate and associated SuperPAC’s are raising.
2. How many people are making contribution(more is better).
3. How much grassroots support the candidate has and how energized they are.
4. How strong the candidate’s campaign organisation is, especially in the states.
Ted Cruz is very strong in all these areas. Not to mention Ted Cruz dominates all the GOP candidates in Facebook interactions, which reflects his strong grassroots support.
JEB Bush has very little grassroots support. Same with Rubio. Cruz will be competitive with Bush in fund raising, especily the SuperPAC’s and CRUSH Rubio in fundraising.
It’s weird that these aren’t matching up with the polling, here’s hoping the polls are wrong.
Thanks for those points we all have to remember to not take the polls too seriously when it’s this early.
