Trump worship does the GOP no favors
WaPo ^ | 23 JUN 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 06/23/2015 11:58:49 PM PDT by South40

Too many pundits and pols on the right, marinated in a toxic mix of self-pity and obtuseness, are bemused or even enchanted by Donald Trump. Considering what Trump stands for and how he presents himself to voters, this is both alarming and confounding.

In the past he’s advocated a single-payer health care system (which even ObamaCare didn’t give us), called for massive tax increases, favored abortion rights, and revealed himself to be hyper-protectionist. Today he attacks those who want to reform Social Security and Medicare, the main threats to our fiscal future. He was a registered Democrat from 2001 to 2008. As of 2011, he had given a majority of his $1.3 million political contributions to Democrats, including Harry Reid. If that wasn’t enough, Trump has a fondness for conspiracy theories, from linking autism to vaccinations to being America’s most prominent birther. . . . For some, it seems, the attraction is found in the Trump style, which is precisely the concern. Mr. Trump’s announcement speech was rambling, vague, shallow, simplistic, insulting, ad hominem, and self-obsessed. He has no governing agenda and no governing philosophy; all he has is an attitude. And that attitude is crude and off-putting.

As long as Jennifer Rubin defines the qualifications for a Republican we are doomed both lose elections and to lose the country.

The author of this is clearly a liberal who openly mocks conservatives and the intellect of those in conservative red states.

The situation is much worse when self proclaimed conservatives on well known conservative sites are posting articles of her handy work while suggesting this is the voice of reason.

They were rhetorical questions Red, which I might add went unanswered.

I have never vouched for the woman's credentials, conservative or otherwise. If you believe so, please point to anywhere you believe I have. I have said what she says about liberal Donald Trump is true.

The situation is much worse when self-proclaimed conservatives in well-known conservative forums are defending well-known liberals like Donald Trump who have a long history of taking liberal positions.

So are you now suggesting the author of this is not the voice of reason when she openly mocked conservatives and the intellect of those in conservative red states?

Where did I say that? I said what she said about liberal Donald Trump was true, and it was.

Had she criticized Rick Perry for being pro-amnesty, I have a feeling you wouldn't mind. But you're on the side of the liberal this time and that must really stick in your craw. That's your problem for backing the liberal. Live with it.

I see much disinfo about Trump another case is point.

Trump changed to Conservatism later in life, but that’s not possible for some.

You believe this liberal author is the voice of reason regarding Trump being a liberal? So we are to believe liberals now hate liberals?

You agree the liberal author is the voice of reason when she openly mocked conservatives and the intellect of those in conservative red states regarding Trump?

This article and those who agree with the liberal author are Exhibit A in support of your statement.

Btw, you’re the one who’ll have to live with this thread and your support of it. You own it South40.

You believe this liberal author is the voice of reason regarding Trump being a liberal?

I believe what she said about Trump is true because I know Trump's history of being a liberal is true. You can deny that all you'd like but you can't change it. From wanting to ban guns and praising Michael Bloomgerg for his efforts to ban guns, to being pro abortion, to supporting the Clintons and other far left kooks, the evidence is there you are just choosing to ignore it.

You agree the liberal author is the voice of reason

This voice of reason crap is your words not mine. I said what she said about Trump is true because it is. And you have not refuted one word of it because you can't. You just parrot your own talking point about voice of reason. And frankly, I'm tired of allowing you to use the liberal tactic of dragging me in circles. It's not a valid defense of your liberal clown boy, it just makes you look weak. Bye.

I think it is possible for many. I just don't believe it valid when it is done for political reasons.

OK, so you believe it. Why are liberals attacking liberals?

This voice of reason crap is your words not mine.

So this liberal is only the voice of reason regarding Trump?

I'm tired of allowing you to use the liberal tactic of dragging me in circles.

You put up a thread agreeing with a very liberal author who openly mocks conservatives and the intellect of those in conservative red states, and then accuse me of using liberal tactics?

Yep ‘we’ have to have perfection. Trump is doing very good being a tour de force about what he’s going to do as president.

Personally I haven’t decided yet who I’m voting for, and I won’t make up my mind for many months, but I do want to see Trump in the mix debating all the candidates. I want to see the process play out to the very end. I doubt Trump is going to drop out anytime soon. On the contrary...

Trump will never be president. I think ‘we’ know that. And I think his presence in the debates will be of little benefit. I would rather hear from serious candidates who have something of substance to offer. Not that of a liberal businessman who knows little to nothing of which he speaks.

lol! OK. A leftist businessman with absolutely ZERO political experience is going to first outsmart and then defeat his smarter and more conservative political rivals to get the Republican nomination then go on defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election to make his first public office ever the highest office in the land so he can become the leader of the free world. If you say so.

I disagree with your premises. Outsmarting lifetime politicians who are owned by the Chamber of Commerce is not too hard, especially a man with the means and the balls.

Don’t be obtuse you know what I was speaking about: you thinking, “Trump will never be president. I think ‘we’ know that.”

No, we don’t know “that” unless you have a magical crystal ball.
