Yes, we did, and by a decisive majority. So I don’t see how any politician can just take it upon himself to say he’ll get rid of it. The voters voted to keep our flag, in strong numbers. It was voted upon, passed overwhelmingly, and is part of our state flag, which makes this somewhat different from the situation in South Carolina. Not that the left hasn’t ever disregarded the vote of the people to advance their agenda (see the gaystap and the propositions they had overturned by the courts).

The fact the state legislature is willing to do what THEY think is best for the state, REGARDLESS of what "the majority" wants, should PLEASE the "we're not a democracy, we're a republic" crowd. Haven't they argued over and over again that democracy = mob rule and its eeeeeeeeeeeevil to let the majority decide what the state should do? Haven't they said state legislatures are the best form of government and they need to reclaim their power?
