Shame of a Nation: Marines Forced to Deploy Via Foreign Ships

Notice how socialism always and everywhere results in “shortages,” every time it’s tried. Well, our own socialist chickens have now come home to roost:

Faced with a shortage of U.S. Navy ships, the Marine Corps is exploring a plan to deploy its forces aboard foreign vessels to ensure they can respond quickly to global crises around Europe and western Africa. The initiative is a stopgap way to deploy Marines aboard ships overseas until more American vessels are available, said Brig. Gen. Norman Cooling, deputy commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa.

I can’t think of a better way for our enemy to stage ambushes.

France has those two Mistral ships that it won’t sell to Russia. Why doesn’t the U.S. buy those?

Why not get rid of the Marine Corps? Think of the Money we would save? That could be given to homeless people and starving children in the communities? Think of the free Obamaphones that could be given out. Because of the UN there will be no more wars—and Americans always use the armed forces to kill people of color. So we could disband the army and navy too. Who needs them in the new Rainbow World of peace and harmony?

What kind of “global crises around Europe and western Africa” are there that Europe and/or western Africa cannot respond to themselves?

Seventy years ago, the industrial might of the United States not only lavishly equipped our own armed forces and projected their power to every corner of the earth, we also lavishly equipped the armed forces of our allies. American production was such that we built weapons systems and support systems nobody else could even think of building because they simply did not have the resources. We built them not because we had to, but because we could. And to top it off, we had enough leftover capacity to build two different types of atomic weapons; bombs that five years earlier were no more than theories on a chalkboard.

And we threw it all away.

Foreign vessels from where? Nobody in Europe has a fraction of the amphibious lift that the U.S. does so I hardly think they have any ships to spare.

Get rid of the Marine Corps? We can’t do that! Who would deliver all those packages marked “Aid?”

I believe the US military has long had sealift contracts with commercial shipping companies.

In these days of special ops and helicopter carriers and such, there might indeed be neglect of classic amphibious vessels.

You read through US history and you find our military has declined/reduced between wars mostly by Democrat presidents.

The US built our world with resources stolen from people of color in far off distant lands like Kenya and Indonesia. /S

No forward gear. It only operates in reverse.

I believe the US military has long had sealift contracts with commercial shipping companies.

The Navy has the Military Sealift Command which has over 100 ships that do nothing but support the fleet or act as pre-positioning sites for military equipment. But they don't carry or land troops and the article seems to be saying that is what the Marines are looking for an alternative for.
