Maryland governor announces 'aggressive' cancer
Washington Examiner ^ | June 22, 2015 | Paige Winfield Cunningham

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday he has advanced cancer and is starting aggressive chemotherapy.

The 59-year-old governor, who took office in January, said that while the disease is in a "very advanced" stage, he has a "very strong chance of success" of survival and even "beating" it. He intends to continue serving as governor while undergoing treatment.

"It's a tough time to go through and I'm going to miss a few meetings, but I'll have full capacity to make decisions," Hogan said. "I'll still be working most of the time."

Hogan said he has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma that has spread throughout 20 to 30 percent of his body. He will undergo aggressive chemotherapy for about 18 weeks. The cancer was diagnosed after Hogan found a lump on his throat while shaving, he said.

Hogan had been feeling ill since returning from a trip to Asia two weeks ago, canceling multiple appearances and events last week, according to news reports.

Prayers up for the best. Sad that he has to fight a nasty cancer on two fronts, the one attacking his body and the other attacking the people of Maryland; the cancer of lawless Liberalism.

Speaking as a Marylander - this is truly terrible news. He has been doing his level best to be a good governor and not try to settle old political scores (Ehrlich) or position for higher office (O’Malley).

My prayers for his recovery and for him and his family in any event.

It’s hard to describe just what a breath of fresh air he’s been here in Maryland.

“Larry Hogan is not a career politician. He is a small businessman, a concerned citizen, and a lifelong Marylander who loves this state.

Hogan is the Founder of The Hogan Companies, a leader in economic development for over 25 years, and has brought hundreds of businesses and thousands of jobs to Maryland. He clearly understands how government policy can have an impact on business growth and job creation.

Always a concerned citizen, Hogan also understands state government. He took a leave from his company to serve as a State Cabinet Secretary from 2003 to 2007. During this time, Hogan was involved in the appointment of people to all three branches of government and responsible for making the Ehrlich-Steele administration the most bipartisan, most inclusive, most diverse administration in Maryland history.

After the 2010 elections, Hogan could no longer sit on the sidelines and watch the failed policies of the current administration. In order to provide Marylanders with the opportunity to hold their elected officials accountable, Hogan founded Change Maryland, which has quickly grown into the largest non-partisan grassroots organization in the state. As chairman and founder, Larry Hogan has been the leader in the effort to change the dialogue in Annapolis.

Larry and his wife, Yumi - an artist, teacher, and first-generation Korean-American - reside in Edgewater, MD. They have three daughters and are active in many volunteer civic and charitable organizations.

Larry currently serves as the 62nd Governor of Maryland”

“Boyd Rutherford is an accomplished attorney with a lifetime of experiences in both the private and public sectors. He has served as Associate Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration, where he was responsible for increasing utilization of small businesses in government procurement, as well as continually improving the efficiency of the agency.

In addition, Boyd served as Assistant Secretary for Administration for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and was nominated for the position by President George W. Bush and confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate. As Assistant Secretary, Boyd led efforts that saved millions of taxpayer dollars.

Prior to serving with the USDA, Boyd served as the Secretary of the Maryland Department of General Services under Governor Bob Ehrlich. In this capacity, Boyd was responsible for more than $900 million in annual contract administration and 10 million square feet of State-owned and leased facilities. As Secretary of the DGS, Boyd found creative ways to save Maryland taxpayers millions, while also initiating and completing the expansion and renovation of numerous state buildings.

In addition to his public service, Boyd has extensive legal and business experience including service in the fields of information technology sales, law, and small & minority business development. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in economic and political science from Howard University, as well as a law degree and Master’s Degree in communications management from the University of Southern California.

Boyd currently resides in Columbia, Maryland with his wife, Monica. They have three adult children.

Boyd currently serves as the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.”

Even Hopkins won’t,when speaking frankly, offer much hope when faced with an “advanced” case of “aggressive” cancer.

And how telling is it that the Washington Post article about this is closed to comments - because they KNOW that there would be an outpouring of truly hateful comments from the Left. You know - the ones who pride themselves on being so “tolerant”. God forbid their utter intolerance and hateful nature be demonstrated for the entire world to see.

From my own experience, and watching others with serious medical situations, I believe top government officials should step aside, temporarily.

Pain means pain meds, which alter the mind. Not to mention the distraction, etc.

Taxpayers deserve full attention.

Prayers for him and his family. He has proven to be a fabulous Governor thus far. Repealed the rain tax, cut the bridge fee, and showed to be a true leader during the riots. This is horrible...

If there’s any good news, it’s the following: Non-Hodgkins is very treatable and has survival rates above 50% in advanced stages. He’s also in a good area for treatment with the Sajak Pavilion in Annapolis at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Also, U of MD Medical Center and Johns Hopkins are nearby in Baltimore.
