I did make a kid-carrying kite. Tried it out in a gale. Fortunately the fabric ripped off before I went too far.

In my case it was a parasail made from a surplus chute with a conduit cross bar and a swingset seat. Pulled it with a boat on the Mississippi and car at the local airport.
I jumped off an outdoor toilet using an umbrella as a parachute when I was 8. Only did it once.
