“The riots that followed Grays death included looting of pharmacies, resulting in a glut of prescription opiates on the streets of Baltimore. That has led to a violent war among drug gangs over market share”
Hmmm...and who told the police to stand down? Oh yeah, it was the witless mayor.
You think he should interfere with city politics in Baltimore? Remember, the mayor and the state's attorney were elected by the residents of Baltimore. City police do not come under state leadership.
He is backing the business owners in the city and he is making contact with the residents. There isn't a whole lot more he SHOULD be doing.
Well hells bells,
Not so much worried about the crime rate spike,
But the drop in revenue for the city is the real problem.
Those nasty cops have to do their jobs or Baltimore won’t have enough money to pay off all those worthless gub mint slackers.
Can’t see too many taking the risk by investing a penny in Baltimore or Newark or any lib crap hole like these.
Nobody wants to invest in Newark NJ; the government forces it on taxpayers by trying to prop up the economy there with schools, hospitals, and entertainment venues. Businesses receive tax breaks on condition that they hire a certain percentage of the unemployable locals, but in the end they don’t contribute much to city coffers. Newark has attempted to poach clients from the Meadowlands, inducing them to relocate to Newark, but only succeeding in attracting the Devils hockey team (still somewhat of a fringe sport here anyway - when they won the Stanley Cup in the past they had their parade in the arena parking lot). The wealthy Russian owner of the Nets refused to play ball and instead moved to Brooklyn (where people can afford tickets); now NJ has no basketball team. The Devils owner, when given a bill by the city, publicly stated he would never have moved the team there if he knew he was going to have to pay what they demanded; the city had built a sports venue where there was no demand anyway (and then quickly wanted the Meadowlands shut down to force anyone wanting to attend a concert, circus, or sporting event into Newark).
These ploys rarely work; it failed in Camden NJ (where the state aquarium and battleship New Jersey museum are located), and it is failing in Newark - too many people know how dangerous these areas are. One of the first such makework projects in Newark, the Newark Bears stadium (they were an unaffiliated minor league baseball team), has already folded; now their stadium sits vacant. The hope that if whites wouldn’t move to Newark, they would at least stay after work and redistribute their earnings, was in vain.
At this point NJ cities, with the state capital out of money, are looking around for sugar daddies to pay for “administering” the welfare hives.
It is not the governor’s role to meddle in the sewer that is Baltimore city.
The county should bring the city to taw
FWIW, 2nd... I’ve heard from “little birdies” that yes.. the police are slowing down BUT in the bad areas of B’more. They are still in force and doing their “jobs” at the Inner Harbor, Camden Yards, the Aquarium. I would go right now to the Aquarium with my kids with no fear. Other areas? Nope. But I would have stayed away from those areas even before the riots.
