WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Terrorist attacks worldwide surged by more than a third and fatalities soared by 81 percent in 2014, a year that also saw Islamic State eclipse al Qaeda as the leading jihadist militant group, the U.S. State Department said on Friday.
In its annual report on terrorism, the department also charts an unprecedented flow of foreign fighters to Syria, often lured by Islamic State's use of social media and drawn from diverse social backgrounds.
Taken together, the trends point to a sobering challenge from militant groups worldwide to the United States and its allies despite severe blows inflicted on al Qaeda, author of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in Washington and New York.
Al Qaeda's leaders "appeared to lose momentum as the self-styled leader of a global movement in the face of ISIL's rapid expansion and proclamation of a Caliphate," the report said, using an alternate acronym for Islamic State.
Last June, Islamic State attacked from its base in Syria and seized vast swaths of Iraq, much of which it still controls.

Isis is essentially al Qaeda.
Same islamic idiots >> different name
al Qaeda >> Isis
Liberals >> Progressives
Same thing.
Same reasons.
ISIS is major part of Obama’s Legacy. Perhaps his most significant “accomplishment”, along with stagnation, socialism and racial strife at home - and resurgent enemies abroad (including/especially a Nuclear Iran).

Not much of a surprise with a Muslim (sympathizer) in the WH.
Your comments on his legacy with regard to ISIS is on point. This is the guy that promised us we would have more friends because he wouldn’t talk down to them.
ISIS blossomed on his watch. So not only do we not have more friends, we have even more and arguably worse enemies.
As for socialism and racial strife, again spot on. I agree.
As for stagnation, we have to admit to ourselves that under Bush our nation had 0.87% fewer jobs after his first term than we had when he was sworn in. By the end of his first term, we had 0.83% more jobs than when he was sworn in for his first term.
Over the 40 previous years, and ten administrations, we had averaged a 19.75% growth rate in jobs every eight years.
Obama inherited stagnation and did little to improve it.
Between Bush and Obama, we will have at least 25 million fewer jobs than we should have had, and more likely in the neighborhood of 35 to 40 million.
They both were economic blunderers of major proportions.
stop pretending Powers is waking up to the truth about Obama.
No doubt. She’s an admitted and proud lefty. Her book is good because she is unhappy with the way the left shouts people down. She is definitely a lib.
Oh you’re just too technical and picky...
...and also, exactly right!
Some of these talking heads can’t get out of their own way.
The JV squad is kicking the Varsity’s tush.
I think the reality that few were willing to accept, was that bin Laden simply wasn’t the cornerstone to terror that a lot of people said he was.
I’ve sometimes wondered if he was a scape goat all along.
I think there was something to it, but I’ve never been completely sold on his overall status according to our government.
Of course I could be wrong, but there is that little seed of doubt.
