China has announced that fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will not be permitted in the largely-Muslim province of Xinjiang.
This is not the first time such a ban has been imposed, but this year tensions are extra high because of recent attacks in the area carried out by Muslim extremists.
With Chinas leading role in world power-politics gradually mounting, decisions by the leaders of the giant country are of increasing interest to the rest of the world. China is the most populous country in the world and the 3rd largest in size.

China’s communist and goes after all religions like that.
Of course they are....they just don't tell anybody...
China would be far better off if it just ushered it’s Islamic folks to the exit.
That element refuses to play nice.
Even infidels have a right to pursue peace on their soil.
For now, perhaps, they are allies of convenience. But there are limits. The Chinese are going to keep them out of China.
I bet Japan is way ahead of them on this.
As allies they have no problem with them.
They are in China plenty of times meeting with them and their Pakistani and other allies.
Just like how Russia helps Iran out so much on one hand and keeps the Chechnyan Muslims in check on the other.

China won’t tolerate terrorism and don’t spare anyone’s feelings combating it. So I doubt those groups will contest this too much.
A good deal of Ramen recipes are not Halal, now that you mention it.
They are allies in matters of external power politics, sure. The Chinese want to project power against India, and they want to project power to areas of natural resources, such as the MidEast and Africa. If not project power, at least have an understanding which allows economic benefit.
But, the Chinese will draw the line at agitation in the Western provinces where the Uighur live. The Chinese will not allow significant Muslim immigration, especially if they can identify Islamist influence.

They won’t tolerate any terrorism that seeks to undo Maoism, that is.
But what kind of terrorism are they expecting from Christians?
