Trump: Huckabee Can't Protect Entitlements Like I Can
The Hill ^ | May 07, 2015 | Mark Hensch

Posted on 06/19/2015 10:00:51 AM PDT by nickcarraway

New York real estate mogul Donald Trump said Thursday that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) could not prevent funding cuts to entitlement programs if elected president in 2016.

“Huckabee is a nice guy but will never be able to bring in the funds so as not to cut Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid,” Trump tweeted. “I will.”

Trump, a possible 2016 GOP presidential candidate, also argued Huckabee was stealing his potential campaign ideas.

“Huckabee copied me,” Trump wrote. “I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid.” Trump has not yet publicly decided on an Oval Office bid. He vowed on Thursday that, should he run, he would thoroughly test other Republicans over their White House credentials.

“If I run, I will be in all the primary debates, and you will see why I am the only one who can make American great again,” Trump posted.

Huckabee formally launched his 2016 campaign on Tuesday in his hometown of Hope, Ark. The former governor is running on a platform of social conservatism and blue-collar economics.

“Like a lot of Americans, I grew up in a small town that was far removed from the money, the power and the influence that runs this country,” he said.

“We’ve lost our way morally. We’ve witnessed the slaughter of over 55 million babies in the name of choice, and we’re now threatening the foundation of religious liberty by criminalizing Christianity and demanding we abandon biblical principles in natural marriage,” the former Baptist minister added to a cheering crowd of supporters.

Huckabee's followed two more entrants into the 2016 GOP field on Monday.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson each took first steps on the campaign trail the day before.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) have all also started campaign operations.

Well actually the reason Medicare and SS are called entitlements is precisely because you pay into them all your working life. Its mandatory you have no choice. So you are entitled to receive benefits at retirement age.

Medicare caries an ongoing monthly premium.

”… could not prevent funding cuts to entitlement [emphasis added] programs ..."

As a side note to this thread, taxpayers had originally understood that unconstitutional Social Security was not an entitlement program.

Your S S Check THIS IS TRUE!!!

I have to say that although I like what Donny’s saying, for Republicans of whatever stripe to take him seriously ultimately denigrates or deteriorates however seriously they take themselves. This is bluster over substance, never mind his prior record. I am saying that IMHO, ultimately this is destructive. It would be less destructive if he was just a loudmouthed firebrand standing off to the side, kind of like Sarah Palin. That’s largely what he has been. And maybe this is purely a self-promotion for him, I have to consider that’s the 80% possibility. With this guy yakking away, not only do Republicans have to fend off liberal attacks (which they are dumb to keep responding to) but now they have to compete with a loudmouthed zero. Likely, it’s not for the better. I bet the GOPe loves this, because he makes all their idiots look good.

In one on one choice between Tax hike Mike and Trump I’d vote for Trump. Thankfully neither one has a chance of winning.

OMGosh! LOL! You need your own show! Couldn’t agree with you more! ROTFL!!

On a serious note, I think Trump’s support will fade, but I confess to having some fun with the case of nerves he must surely be giving the GOPE, and all the smooooth operators out there, the politically correct, who are schmoozing it up with the Duchess of Queensbury Rules, with their low tone speechifying. I just wish he would focus on Hillary!

The ability to focus is not his strong suit, is it?

Sorry, but I don’t see how Trump’s affecting the field helps the Establishment, or helps Jeb Bush, or helps defeat Hillary.

Trump just enraged the Left, never mind the incidental kudos he paid to their personalities. He beat up mostly his own side for kicks. It was comedy in the style of Saturday Night Live.

Probably the Establishment is still trying to figure out wth he actualy said. LOL! :)

“The ability to focus is not his strong suit, is it?”

Yeah, that’s how Trump made billions of dollars, by not being able to focus on the business at hand, lol.

It depends on what you mean by the word, “focus”.

Flim flam has made the guy billions. So did the old door to door vacume salesmen make a little money.

I mean, running a nation on a stream of consciousness is different from running it with focus. I just thought most of us probably noticed the obvious. Guess not.

Social security and Medicare are NOT the same as Medicaid; they are earned and paid into by recipients. Medicaid is welfare.
