Earlier this week the professionally aggrieved began a campaign against the Louisville Kentucky police department after a deranged man attacked a police officer with a flag pole, and was shot and killed.
The professional agitators began using the same antagonistic activist messaging, “F**k the Police”, as previously used in Ferguson, Saint Louis, Baltimore, Madison, New York, Charlottesville and McKinney, Texas.
The Louisville Kentucky police have had enough. They pen an open letter to the public:
An open letter from the police: the FOP appears to be fighting back.
The Watchman Ping List - FReepmail Old Sarge for details!
WOW!!!
There ARE real men left in this country.
Long overdue.
(In before the anti-LEO crowd)
YES !!!! It’s about time.
you resist, you die
A night stick doesn’t really seem so bad now does it?
“No matter what craziness occurs we will always protect...”
Unless it’s a really big riot, then we will leave you to the mobs. Sorry about that, Mr. Denny.
It’s a very nice letter, don’t get me wrong. But it doesn’t reflect reality. And that’s a fact.
L
Excellent letter. A powerful and truthful statement of reality.
Was it absolutely necessary to bring a gun to a club fight? What happened to the nightsticks cops used to use?
I have no particular problem with the cops shooting this loon. I'm just asking a question.
Why do American cops seem to often have no response to physical resistance short of lethal force? Why does the cop in the video have no weapon to defend himself short of his service weapon?
That flagpole was a pretty awkward weapon. I'm no expert, but give me a baseball bat and I'm fairly sure I could take him on successfully.
amen
Yet more proof that I was correct to move from Seattle to Kentucky. :-)
Somebody agreed with me! Thanks!
A lot of people seem to think the mere fact of resistance to police authority should carry the death penalty and anybody who resists in any way should count themselves extremely lucky if they don't die as a result.
Cops in other countries also face people wielding potentially deadly implements like this guy was. The big difference is that they seldom face guns.
In UK, they've averaged, I think, less than five per year killed by the cops. There have been several recent years when the cops killed nobody.
I can pretty well guarantee you cops were attacked with blunt objects, broken bottles, etc. Yet they managed to deal with the situation without opening fire.
I suspect American cops, who DO have to deal with an armed populace, have been trained to view all potentially deadly implements, which is almost anything, as the equivalent of a firearm and respond accordingly.
“Long overdue.”
You said it.
And if the rest of the country does likewise, maybe - just maybe - it won’t be too late.
What happened to police batons? Rodney King happened.
Subduing an enraged assailant, who may be on drugs, with a nightstick is unlikely to happen with one hit. You have to keep on hitting him until he goes down. You might be able to put him down with a strike to the skull, but that is likely to give him a concussion, might turn him into a vegetable (at which point you get sued for $millions), or might kill him anyway.
Meanwhile, people will video your whacking the guy over and over, and selectively edited videos of that will appear on youtube within minutes, to inflame public opinion against you.
Contrast that with just shooting the guy. A guy comes at you with a weapon, you shoot him, end of story. Harder to edit the video to put you in the worst light.
Lastly, the guy attacking you with a pole is likely to have a history of violence. Making him assume room temperature now may spare a brother officer from being injured by him at some point in the future.
my grand father was a bondsman and part of the job was bringing in those that jumped bail
my inheritance (I ended up with them all) was an assortment of short billy clubs and leather saps. all are worn with the patina of daily use. Use means they were carried as a part of ordinary business
I thought you were responding to my many posts advocating the return of night sticks or batons as they are politely known. A good whack on the legs or butt of the bikini clad pool girl would have instantly ended her resistance. there is no sense at all in a police officer endangering himself wrestling a resister. A whack in the head will calm most into ceasing resistance
there is no right to resist or to flee.
Stop or I’ll shoot should be the norm
I think you point is spot on except the dead perp already hit the officer with the flagpole...
The officer was pinned against his car...difficult position to get the situationaly advantage
The prep seemed to disregard the officer had a weapon pulled out...
Just how many times should the perp hit him with the flagpole before he defended himself...?
If the prep simply threatened him with the pole and he was shot dead, I would completely agree with you...
This is the first article I've read about Kentucky that's said something good about them in at least a year. Maybe I'm not getting the whole picture - tell me more!
I don’t know if you have noticed but many police forces have taken away the nightsticks and bigger flashlights in favor of spray. To many lawsuits about police hitting people with the clubs.
A whack in the head will calm most into ceasing resistance
...........
That constitutes deadly force and is prohibited. The baton is only meant for use with pain compliance on other areas of the body.
” I’m no expert, but give me a baseball bat and I’m fairly sure I could take him on successfully”
Cops don’t carry baseball bats, because they won’t fit in the holster. They do carry guns to protect themselves, just as I and many thousands of civilians do. Being a cop does not deprive anyone of the right of self defense.
“I suspect American cops...have been trained to view all potentially deadly implements, which is almost anything, as the equivalent of a firearm and respond accordingly.”
I think you’re exactly right about that. A typical scenario - Cop feels threatened (by anything), pulls out his gun and empties a full clip. I’m sure they’re trained to do that, and it’s wrong.
I’m all for anything that improves officer safety, but not at the expense of the public they serve. It’s not about cops killing black. It’s about cops shooting anybody they want with almost no repercussions.
