Its about freedom, not the fries.
So says new Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who announced Thursday that the state is repealing a decade-old ban on deep fryers in public schoolsan unappetizing reversal to national health advocates, school nutritionists and even his predecessor in the post.
Miller, a self-described pot-bellied calf-roper and former teacher, says his focus is firmly on combating childhood obesity. But he says government mandates have failed to make kids healthier in Texas, where roughly two-thirds of residents are considered overweight or obese.
He is also relaxing restrictions on certain soft drinks in campus vending machines, saying that school districts need flexibility.

Take that, Michelle.
I am moving to Texas ya’ll — with a gun om my hip and trans fats in my belly. Fracking A!!
I wish I had looked for colleges in Texas...
Bless you Texas.
*sniff* That’s going to be some good eating.
Now the can have deep fried Mooch-approved brussel sprouts
Nice hat!
I love my deep fryer and so do the kids. You can use clean fresh healthy fats in it. The food is so fast and so delicious.
I saw on HSN a Air Fryer. Don’t know if they work, but it does make crispy fries without the oil.
“It was among dozens of groups, SCHOOL LEADERS and voters who wrote letters of opposition to Miller’s agency, which administers the federal National School Lunch and Breakfast programs in Texas schools...Miller says critics are missing the point that Texas is simply giving schools the option of reinstalling deep fryers if they want starting July 1.”
Something that the IDIOTS that still send their kids to public schools should note here: Why should “school leaders” be against ALLOWING fryers? Ask yourself that. No one is REQUIRING fryers, they are simply ALLOWING fryers. If a “school leader” doesn’t want a fryer in his school - guess what, there will not be one. WHY SHOULD HE CARE, then?
Because these are the people that run education in this country. But it’s a lost cause, keeping up with the Jones (by sending your kids to ‘free’ schools) ALWAYS trumps doing the right thing. Always.
Deep Fried Butter?
It’s an amazing thing when ANYONE in a leadership position evaluates an existing policy and reverses course. Good for this guy to say “We banned this stuff because kids were obese. It hasn’t changed anything so lets give the schools the option to use it again.” Well done.
You ain’t from around these parts, is you?
You could suffer severe angina just from reading the menu!
Fryer’s Club meetings will never be the same in school.
