Ethnic group sensitivity and self-assertiveness have a long history in America. It's hard to see the Frankfurt School, the sour old white men who couldn't dance and hated jazz, as in the forefront of various American ethnic movements. They did hook into feminist and gay thinking, but they weren't really leading the way there either.

Lind is fashioning a label and a history for current racial and sexual politics, in hopes that he can easily uproot it by calling it "cultural Marxism," but it's already pretty deeply rooted in some parts of American society.

Also, with all the research William Lind did, he really ought to have considered the consequences that throwing around a term like Kulturbolschewismus (cultural Marxism) had in European history.

This is an absolutely fantastic essay. Thanks not only for posting it, but drawing attention to the website hosting it, which is equally good!

Look at how many posters on Free Republic use the term “Native American.”

Members of the various tribes have genetic markers showing that their ancestors came from what, prior to 1991, used to be called Soviet Central Asia, others came from coastal China.

Their ancestors came across the land bridge now known as the Aleutian Island eons ago, long before people of European ancestry crossed the Atlantic.

The proper term should be First Peoples, or First People not “Native Americans.”

As long as PC is political, you can’t expect it to be correct. It’s never been more dangerous because it’s never been more effective. We are almost at the point of no return.

They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic.

No, they don't HAVE to be afraid. Or, if they must be, they need to confront that fear by confronting the fascism that gives rise to it. It is a different kind of courage -- a moral courage -- but just as important in this culture war as the guts to charge a machine gun in combat.

I still call them “Indians”; to differentiate them from people from India I refer to anyone who looks like an Indian citizen as a “Hindu”. As inaccurate as both of those temrs may be, nobody has ever misunderstood my meaning when I use them.

I find that "Indian" works as well today as it did for the first 600 years in the New World.

"First Peoples" is just as PC as "Native Americans."

I think Patton may have respected the guy if he’d tried that.

The original term for it was “Cultural Marxism”. But, that’s too “truthy” for the left to implement it effectively.

Good one! bump to the top...

I never really considered “First Peoples” to be PC, because their ancestors were the first humans to reside in the Americas.

Ironically, I have heard the members of various tribes refer to themselves as “Indians,” which is what I call them.
Or I call them Navajos, Chumash, Nez Perce, Sioux, Penobscots, Seminoles, Pequots, or whatever their respective tribes are named.

If you want to be PC, "Sioux" is incorrect. The tribe refers to itself as "Lakotah."

But I've discovered that most Indians -- and I know a few -- are perfectly okay with being called "Indian." The only ones having a cow about it are liberal fags bent on solving a problem that doesn't exist.

Well, it won’t ruin me. I believe in individualism, freedom from tyranny, free-market capitalism, and the beauty of the traditional family. And I will draw my last breath still believing and living that.

No, we are already there. It will be no holds barred from here on out. It’s about to get very interesting.
