I encourage everyone to read the article. It's about a retired cop who was participating in a "lockdown drill" with students.
A handful of students weren't taking it seriously, and another student admonished them: Hey guys, were doing this drill because of Sandy Hook,
When the woman took the students aside to talk to them, one asked what "Sandy Hook" was. She told them about it, and showed some pictures from the news reporting (not gory photos).
There's a growing petition of over 1,000 parents to reinstate her. Some of the signatories have children that were students at Sandy Hook during that incident.
Yeah. By all accounts (in this article and others), she handled the kid’s questioning well. Explained what happened in a sensitive, age-appropriate way, and tied it in to what they were doing - which is important, because a lockdown drill like this is completely useless if the participants (a) don’t care about what they’re doing and/or (b) don’t understand why.
