Google Doodle "celebrates" Statue of Liberty
Google Doodle ^

Google is celebrating the Statue of Liberty being transported in a boat.

QUESTION: Is the celebration about the delivery, or the RETURN of the Statue of Liberty, in anticipation of coming restrictions in America?

Do the people who run Google know about the history of the Statue of Liberty?

We're re-defining the word "freedom."

The new "freedom" is "freedom from responsibility."

(h/t to GeronL).

I had to read what that meant because it looked more like a toppled statue than one being transported by boat .... just MY eyes, I guess.

It wasn’t shipped here on a truck.

My first glance was a toppled Statue of Liberty as well.

So, just because Google is thought to be “celebrating” something, I should “embrace” it?

Makes sense. It wasn’t shipped here on a truck.

I wasn't shipped here fully assembled, though.

Google celebrates the 130th anniversary of France delivering the Statue of Liberty to the United States on June 17th 2015.
“When did the Statue of Liberty arrive in New York Harbor?”, asked Google in the recent searchterm.
Height of the Statue of Liberty: 151 feet 1 inch.
It was dedicated on October 28th 1886.
...and has been restored several times (1938, 1984-1986, 2011-2012).

There is a nice pictorial of how Lady Liberty was constructed, here:

Construction of the statue began in 1875 in France, and was completed in June 1884. The statue was dismantled and its numbered sections were shipped to New York, arriving on June 19, 1885. The statue then took four months to rebuild in its present location on Liberty Island at the entrance to New York harbor.

The 151-foot statue was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States to commemorate the 100th anniversary of American independence.

My first impression is that he statue is leaning so far to the left that it has just gone past the tipping point.

"The new "freedom" is "freedom from responsibility."

Exactly!

When I was a child growing up in the 60/70s, I used to hear hippies champion the word "Freedom". Later I came to understand what that actually meant to them.

Freedom: The decoupling of the consequences from your personal choices.

At the least, they knew the arrival date. Did you?
