BALTIMORE (Reuters) - Maryland officials are eyeing a $2.9 billion light rail project long in the works for Baltimore as a way of combating the crushing poverty that fueled rioting in the city after the police-custody death of Freddie Gray.
Backers say the proposed Red Line light rail project could speed city residents to jobs and help end the isolation of poor neighborhoods, some of which still bear the scars of race riots in the 1960s...

Bringing the ‘hood to your nice suburban cul-de-sac in 20 minutes or less.
My take, too. When your job is "lootin' and shootin'", you want an easy commute. With Obamaphone communications, expect flash mobs at the suburban malls, too.
This isn't about inner city construction jobs, and it isn't about workforce mobility.
“Bringing the hood to your nice suburban cul-de-sac in 20 minutes or less.”
yeah, that’s exactly what’s happened in city after city where this was done. Doesn’t bring workers to jobs but basically is mass transportation for mass rioters. Great transportation for flash mobs and gang meets too. Rail stops become the new corner hoods, all up and down the lines.
2.9 billion?
Why not just build a wall around the problem area and let nature take it’s course?
“This isn’t about inner city construction jobs, and it isn’t about workforce mobility. “
NO, it’s about pi$$ing away more tax money to make it “look like” they’re doing something. And It’s probably just to save the a$$es of Rawlings-Blake and that black female cretin that’s posing as their DA! And if they are able to “export” the riots, they will just claim it’s important to bring down some “equality misery” on the folks who will be picking up the tab.
Another typical lefty dream. I ran the numbers on this boondoggle. Over the life of the train cars, 25 years, assuming zero cost overruns and full utilization of 59000 riders a day, I calculated each ride to cost about $9.00. Nobody is going to pay $18 round trip to get somewhere they can drive for $5.
Like the other lefty Baltimore area toll road express lane boondoggles, they will be surprised when far fewer than estimated us it.
Stop with the subliminal bull$h!t.
Poverty had nothing to do with fueling the riots.
Yeah, that'll make Baltimore safer. Give the thugs inexpensive, convenient rides to areas they haven't already destroyed.
Well I suppose there is a first time for everything, since light rail has ALWAYS been a an expensive taxpayer funded boondoggle in the past and has never lived up to its promises before. Where is Willie Green when you want him (to make fun of)
The sole purpose of light rail is to put taxpayer money into the pockets of the politicians and their allies who support the wretched thing. Atlanta's "streetcar" that goes from Olympic park to the King Center (Like anyone would want to go to either of those places) Cost $4.8 million operating budget $100,000,000 construction budget and very few people even ride it for free.
The riots were caused by poverty — nothing left worth stealing in the hood.
The rail system will end that poverty by getting thugs to areas where there’s still stuff to steal.
It all makes sense if you think about it properly.
Kleptocrats never let a crisis go to waste. Big construction projects offer numerous opportunities for graft that politicians and their cronies can get away with.
I just can’t wait for the light rail to take me to baltimore city center for a vacay. Why...I enjoy ferals hassling me, knifing me and generally rioting. What fun. Thanks maryland taxpayers. Are your arses sore enough yet???

This.
In Philly. Typically after school.
How much of that $2.9 billion will disappear into kickbacks and personal, offshore bank accounts?
Willie Green Memorial Ping.
