Immigrants are known for bringing a strong work ethic and economic stimuli to the U.S., but as their families settle into American life, too many are earning too little.
According to the latest US Census data on means-tested government assistance, the two largest demographic groups that include large numbers of recent immigrants or children of immigrants (Asians and Hispanics) are disproportionately poor enough to qualify for public assistance.

Not if said immigrants are here illegally, they don’t.
IOW the author expects them to clean up the Dear Leader’s mess.
It’s costly getting a new identity and moving to a new country without a job and then seeking low wage employment while raising a family.
If you cannot afford to live here, why move?
Sorry author but the candidates don’t need to follow the commands of your immigration agenda.
The war on poverty will never be won because every generation more poor people are imported into the country.
No.
Their first duty is to see to their constitutional duties.
98 million of Americans are out of work.
Its time for the foreign workers to go home.
They are totally bad drivers too
They need to create their own opportunities, not get it from the broke government. This is (or supposed to be) the land of opportunity. But you have to work for it.
In Texas. illegal immigrants give us crowded schools, low test scores and head lice. They drive drunk and kill innocent Texans. They rape teenage girls and steal everything that isn’t nailed down. They are an expensive liability to us.
What they deserve is deportation and sending their parasite welfare families home with them.
Supply and demand. They end up on gov’t poverty programs because they are not needed in the US economy. And that’s what the C of C and their bought and paid for reps and senators, and also the American left want.
Cheap labor and cheap votes, but expensive gov’t poverty programs.
“At a rate of one million new permanent workers per year, however, new, more and unabated immigration disproportionately puts disadvantaged American communities, including many immigrant families who are already here in constant competition with new arrivals for jobs.”
Yes, the candidates should certainly be addressing what they will do about immigration, whether legal or illegal.
uh, no, they must address the disastrous result of Obamanomics and how it will be reversed for the American people.
They must also address the utter deterioration of the philosophy of modern political leadership—one that is a slave to perversion, moral relativism, and lacks standards.
Being another Texan, I ditto your post
Really? Those that come here illegally are living in poverty? How about addressing away to send them back or make them become legal citizens. How about arresting the ones committing crimes and deporting them.
Haven’t immigrant communities historically been poor? The rich didn’t come here looking for better lives.
Maybe they should remind those “poor immigrants” who is the pResident is right now.
Parasites, nothing but parasites.
A hundred years ago Polish and Slovak immigrants working in the mills around here were earning 15-20 cents an hour.
Politicians must present plan to aggressively pursue deportation of criminals violating immigration laws to steal jobs, benefits and entitlements from American citizens. They must present an Constitutional Amendment to end so called birthright citizenship, pass laws to end the HB-1 visa program, end chain migration, importation of so called refuges, and restrict legal immigration until we have assimilated those already here LEGALLY. Any other program will be rejected.
There fixed it.
As an American, I Believe this should be THEIR government’s job. NOT the job of the American taxpayer.
