First thing I’d do after an attack like that is set up a security camera. Did no one in this entrepreneurial family ever think to do that....or aren’t they interested in solving these crimes?

I am curious about his family. Is that parents? Homosexual partner? I think we might have a little more insight if we had a little more information.

He said they tried to make him, doesn’t mean that they did. But even if it’s true, could have been anyone ranging from an angry ex to himself.
He has no known enemies.
He wasn't attacked while out late at night coming out of a gay bar.
We are to believe that someone that he doesn't have an ongoing feud with, hid outside his home, just in case he came outside, and then was able to attack him without being seen at all. A rapist looking for a target of opportunity might be expected to grab a woman taking out the garbage, but this attack would have had to have been premeditated.
He was left with convenient physical evidence of a "hate crime" which doubles as a badge of honor. And as I said before, actual crimes like this generally attack the face of the individual. This arm thing is very odd. I would also like to know how it was "carved", an attacker would go deep, they wouldn't just be scratching the outer layer of skin.
Yes, it smells of a hoax. If there hadn't been so many other hoaxes uncovered that were very similar, I would probably be giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Back when I was in high school, some kids were twisted enough to carve or brand things into their skin, as if they were tattoos. Twisted, but true.

Unless he doesn’t have a bitter ex. Sometimes an ex can be bitter and dangerous, as I have heard in at least several news reports of a gay or lesbian actually being attacked by their ex. An ex would probably have a decent knowledge of the schedule of the person as well as where the person lived. And the ex could hide bitterness. Not saying this is all fact. I am going to say that it’s simply a likely possibility if the attack is as stated.
We will soon be told that he suffers from a mental condition and we should not judge him.
Fake “hate crimes” should be punished exactly the same as real “hate crimes”.
Yes, the “Ex” theory would make sense, but if true, he apparently isn’t sharing that info, which is odd.
You know that whole bleach thing sounds crazy too, from the standpoint that he would likely inhale it if he unconscious. And where did the bleach come from???
Even crazy attackers do things for a reason. In rape cases, the bleach is done to hide evidence. But what was the reasoning here? If you are going to kill someone, there are easier methods. If you want to torture them, they need to be awake?

Yeah, to maximize the pain, they would need to be conscious. Plus, it doesn’t take a whole lot of bleach to actually kill you. Second, it’s pretty hard to etch into someone’s arm, the back is way easier, third, there was a clique of kids that cut or branded things into themselves with knives or hot wire. It does hurt, but there are people willing to do messed up $&@;) to themselves, in the case of at my high school, it was for some freakish group mindset of writing permanent messages into their bodies.
