It's not for us. My assumption is that the column is delicate surgery on the governor's hypocrisy, aimed at the governor's pro-life-Democrat supporters. It gently catalogues his CRASS, COWARDLY, POLITICALLY CALCULATED BETRAYAL. Let those nice conservative Democrats draw that conclusion by themselves, without thinking they're giving in to a Republican rant.
Even if the writer is unaware of the strategy (which as I say, I doubt), that's what it does.
