It’s like Dean Wormer runs the country.
“But why were the Republicans for it?Because they were being bribed with foreign donations? I dont want to believe that.”
That’s OUTRAGEOUS, they were only bribed with patriotic American corporate funds!/
“Amazing how so many people on FR can’t handle a victory.”
I feel sure we could. Please let us know when you see one.
Not so fast. Beware the undead trade bill. The globalists will make sure there is a second vote. Just like TARP.
I hope you’re right. Lord knows what deals these guys make over the weekend over drinks.
Thank you for the summary
GOP bought and paid for by CofC and multinationals. Dems bought and paid for by unions and multinationals. Bye, bye Miss American Pie....
OMG - really?
FYI - THE TRADE BILL WAS NOT VOTED ON TODAY!~~
What was voted on were the bills (TAA - TPA) that set forth the PROCEDURE for the Trade bills (TPP, TISA).
TPA is not a secret, can be viewed fully online, and has been available to do so, for months.
TPP is the trade bill that is secret. No one has voted on it yet. And unless the TPA is passed, the TPP (Trade Bill) will remain secret, even if it does get passed.
We’re in the strange position of having to thank democrats for doing what the GOP should be doing - having a f****ing SPINE.
Just damn...
It wasn’t defeated.
TAA was defeated. Actually, TPA passed. The media and the republicans have gamed us.
Sec. 102 (a) OVERALL TRADE NEGOTIATING OBJECTIVES
Sec. 102 (a) (3) ...promote full employment in the United States,
Sec. 102 (a) (5) ...and preserve the environment and enhance the international means of doing so,
Sec. 102 (a) (7) ...to seek provisions in trade agreements under which parties to those agreements ensure that they do not weaken or reduce the protections afforded in domestic environmental and labor laws as an encouragement for trade;
[What about protections against currency maniulation? It is dealt with later in Sec. 102 (b) (12)]
Sec. 102 (11) ...to recognize the growing significance of the Internet as a trading platform in international commerce;
[Why should this concern the government unless further regulation and taxation is the aim? What else might such recognition entail?]
Doesn’t matter. The fact that both didn’t pass, because of the way the Senate packaged the two as mutual dependents, means that they must go back to the Senate instead of having the TPA go to Obama’s desk. It’s not over, but it’s going to be extremely difficult to gain passage in the Senate without the TAA.
However, a version of the TPA has passed. Isn’t that correct? And once a TAA passes, there being no reason for the Senate or the House to change the already senate-approved TPA, doesn’t that mean they then have all 3 (including the customs bill)?
Given the glacial slowness of trade negotiations and the number of countries involved, and the complexities of the various needs, I do not believe that the TPP bill will be brought up to Congress during the Obama administration any way.
I don’t think that the bill was defeated.
Bttt
“I guess with the repeal of this labeling requirement, we will have to rely on the names of the producers of the foodstuffs and meats we buy. Most of the growers packaging have their addresses printed thereon.”
Not been repealed yet but they are working on it
TPA was not kept secret, and has been defeated. TPP is still secret, and has not been voted on.
We need to be careful to not conflate all of the various agreements, as they are separate albeit related in some ways.
TPA is a reathorization of a sunsetting law. Staunch conservative politicians disagree on its value and effects. But it is NOT the poison pill commonly assumed to be embedded in the still secret TPP.
“Not been repealed yet but they are working on it”
But it most likely will be because these worthelss turds we have in the Congress will want to kiss up to the UN and the WTO.
