The Response: A Call to Prayer for our nation

WE WILL RESPOND.

America’s issues are not primarily financial, political or moral. Neither does America’s hope lie in one leader or institution. Our hope is found in the One who desires for us to turn to Him with our hearts. This is our response – to call on Jesus on behalf of America, that He might hear our cry and heal our land.

The Response is holding statewide solemn assemblies to gather people from all ages, denominations and backgrounds in prayer and fasting on behalf of our nation. Governor Nikki Haley is inviting South Carolina and the nation to a time of worship, prayer, fasting and repentance on June 13th at the North Charleston Coliseum. This is the time for Christians to come together to call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

"....if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

I know the context demands that this Scripture applies to Israel, and perhaps under the new covenant the church....but I do believe the general principle applies.

America, I fear, is akin to Nineveh in Jonah's day....or, perhaps, Jerusalem in Isaiah's. On the cusp of destruction because of wickedness....we must repent. All sectors: the church, academia, government, media, industry, the arts....

I think the Jerusalem comparison is more apropos and I have been thinking this for a while. I believe we have passed the Isaiah stage and may be akin to Jerusalem in Jeremiah's day.
