MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) A white police officer recorded on video pushing a black girl to the ground at a North Texas pool party resigned from the police force Tuesday.
Officer David Eric Casebolt's actions were "indefensible," McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley said at a press conference after the officer submitted his resignation. But Casebolt was not pressured to quit the force, Conley said.
A teenager at the party posted a video online showing the officer pushing a bikini-clad girl to the ground and brandishing his gun to other black teens when officers responded last Friday to calls about the pool party at a community-owned McKinney swimming pool. The 41-year-old former Texas state trooper and 10-year veteran of the McKinney force was put on administrative leave after the incident. His lawyer, Jane Bishkin of Dallas, confirmed Tuesday he had quit the force.
Conley said a review of the video showed that "our policies, our training and our practices do not support his actions."

IF Casebolt's actions were serious and "indefensible" then he should be forced to quit. Yet he wasn't forced to quit.
So which is it Chief Conley?

He resigned and has apologized publicly. Apparently he had to deal with two suicide calls earlier in the day, including one where the person shot themselves.
He was probably told he could resign and keep his benefits or be fired. It’s what happens in employment when you lose your composure.
I think the part of this that folks are “missing” is how he was not in control. He was in a bad situation, no doubt. But he did not retain his authoritative demeanor. He seemed to be freaking out.
He knew that. And that is why he quit.
I am not saying I could have done better, but he is paid to do better.
Then years...officer of the year...now gone for one incident...it will be the new norm...and police will back off everywhere ...end goal
Just what he said, the cop’s actions were indefensible, and the cop instantly resigned on his own.
The cop is a Barney Fife, who was totally hysterical and emotional, he has apologized for his overreaction and emotionalism, and explained that he had just come from some emotionally wrenching calls.
Probably so, wanted to keep the benefits.
One thing I don't like is all the swearing the cop did at those young teens. Cops have potty mouths, something they should try to be more civil about. You can yell instructions at someone without being disgusting, particularly at kids.

Police Officer in McKinney, Tex., Resigns
Yeah, if you watch the video, he didn’t do anything to de-escalate the situation. At one point, he is running through the scene for no apparent reason, trips on a tree root, does a barrel roll, and keeps on running.
11 other officers at the scene still have their jobs. The scene was diffused without having to throw kids to the ground.
That was the sign that he was becoming hysterical, if the other cops hadn't been busy, then they might have taken him aside at that time.
Yes, I saw the whole video. That trip reminded me of "Galaxy Quest" where Tim Allen does a barrel roll while running, thinking he's macho and cool, until Sigourney Weaver asks him where is his gun. The cop lost his flashlight during that barrel roll on the turf, sort of a keystone cop bit.
I think something is wrong with the “Search” engine. Thus, why we have so many repeat threads?
Anyhow, I did a search by the article title before I posted.
So I go back to my original comment that I think something is wrong with the “Search” engine.
I found those using one word .. resigns .. and searched on titles. If you use a
bunch of words the search doesn’t work well or at all. I pick one word, try it
and maybe use another if no results. Also make sure you are searching for
titles and not other items such as keywords, users, yahoo.

I wasn’t bitching at you. I was crosslinking other threads so others could look
at them if they choose to. Comments take different tracks depending the posters
and time of day. imo.
Okay and thanks.
As I said yesterday, I was a bouncer and bartender at a bar right off of the University of Oklahoma campus (the Deli, for any locals) in the late 80s and early 90s. I have seen all sorts of crowds of unruly people be contained without security or cops freaking out and escalating the situation.
I’m a huge supporter of cops that do their job well. I think some people who want to be cops don’t have what it takes to be an effective cop and when they are put to a pressure test, they don’t pass it.
The fact that 11 out of 12 officers on that scene still have their jobs and no one is accusing them of any sort of misbehavior only highlights how out of control this person was.
He’s probably not a bad guy, and it has now been reported that he had to deal with two really stressful suicide cases earlier in the day. In all likelihood, he probably should have been sent home to recuperate rather than been sent out on a call to an unruly crowd.
“.....he probably should have been sent home to recuperate rather than been sent out on a call to an unruly crowd.”
Nobody gets sent home to recuperate. You suck ‘em up and move on to the next call.
