DENVER - Despite a wet spring over much of the nation, the Obama administration is warning of potentially catastrophic wildfires this summer, especially in the Southwest and Northwest.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell discussed wildfire threats and fire outlook Tuesday in Denver.
Jewell says drought and climate change are increasing wildfire danger.

Jewell says drought and climate change are increasing wildfire danger. So do illegal immigrant camps. Arson and carelessness is big factor.

It’s a fact that illegal aliens deliberately set huge numbers of wildfires.

I live in the Inland Northwest. my daughter and her family live in North Idaho on ten acres with many, many trees. We are very worried about conditions here already
yesterday it was 93, and it’s really dry.
I hope that all freepers can put their opinions of “global warming” aside and join us in daily prayers for rain and the safety of our families. BTW, this is pretty much conservative country — but even if it were not, prayers are desperately needed.

And the Southeast will be devastated by hurricanes and the Northeast will be destroyed by blizzards and the middle will be torn apart by tornadoes.

I think it was Johnny Carson that said:
Well, the good news is the mudslides have put out the fires.

The only thing you can do is make your property defensible by having a reasonable clearing between vegetation/trees and your buildings. Otherwise you are simply gambling on when it will burn.

You’re right DB. Their house is in a clearing, but I still think they could cut back a few more trees. As the summer goes on, they may have to.

Being in a clearing helps tremendously. It may also make it defensible from the air. I’ve got the same worries where I live...

There are web pages on how to cut and trim trees to avoid letting fire get to a house. Easy to find with a search from what I remember. Maybe a link to one of those might help someone.

But ONLY if it is legal to cut the trees on your own property.
Several times, the feds/state/local enviro’s have demanded that homeowners who did cut trees and brush get arrested ...

Strange headline!
After all, northwest + southwest = west.
So why not just say "west" in the first place?
