During the Great Recession, involuntary part-time employment surged. So, now that the economy is recovering, shouldn't involuntary employment return to prerecession levels? Perhaps not, according to new research from the San Francisco Fed.
Changes in the U.S. economy's industrial composition toward services combined with shifting demographics and changes in labor costs appear to have caused a permanent increase in the percentage of people forced to accept involuntary part-time employment.

They can’t seem to mention the word “Obamacare”.
Or H-1B visas, or illegal immigration, and the out sourcing
of our manufacturing base.
Or raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
. . . nor the flood of illegal aliens.
So,the economy is recovering. Really?? Will I live to see it? My second thought was Obamacare, but I see that’s been mentioned.
All true!
LOL. Well, you have to understand. Its shifting demographics, changing industrial structure and labor cost composition. What a load. It reminds me of what they used to say back when Jimmy Carter was president. We were in a new era where we had to accept less. Once Ronald Reagan got in and cut government, all the demographic, structural composition BS went out the window and people started working and earning again.
The economy probably is recovering. But, the economy is not the people. The people, making less money and having lower expectations, are fodder for the profiteers. If the elitists can maximize their profit off us little folk, that's a recovery.
We don't matter, except to generate profits for the elite. We stop being useful when we run out of money and don't generate enough profit. Then, we can be used for body parts if we're healthy enough when we become a drain on the machine.
Once upon a time, a thought like this would necessitate a "sarcasm" tag. Not anymore.
I don't buy the premise that the economy is recovering. The barely breathing GDP that we have today is artificially inflated due to unsustainable borrowing and spending by the government.
The national debt is now over $18 TRILLION. That's $8 trillion more than it was in 2008. Tax receipts are at a record high, and yet the government is still spending $1.3 Trillion per year over and above what it's bringing in. That's shuffling a lot of money around to try and create the illusion that something good is happening.
A future president will have to come along and start making hard choices in order to deal with this mess. That person will be made out to be the bad guy... just like GWB was when Barney Frank and his co-conspirators shouted "OMG!! The banks are over-extended on mortgages!!" just in time for the 2008 presidential elections.
The economy is not recovering. That is just political rhetoric.
“Recovering economy” And they say it was a straight face.
The first quarter was just revised down to negative growth!
Leftists lie and lie and lie and lie....
Need.
I just love these “journos” that use the term “Great Recession”...what propaganda pawns
hunger
mortgages
beer money
car payment
cell phone bill
Many people seem to have to work two part-time jobs at 30 hours a week a piece, so a 60 hour workweek is the new standard.
