Any American who believes there is 5.5% unemployment is either a fool or a liar.

This is the current RCP national average:

Cruz is at 7.5 and in 7th place

Oh so you also believe in MSM polls! Now it’s becoming clear how you’re being led off a cliff!

A right wing extremist named Ronald Reagan was also down in the polls in 1979.

"The fact is we have hundreds of thousands of eminent scientists in our universities, laboratories and think tanks that are on H1B."

Logic should tell you this is a significant exageration.

Yes we have had and still have foreign born scientists here in the states but they are very very small in number. If foreign countries were the source of all this intellectual ability then we would know about the Mexican Space program, Personal computers that were invented in India. Smart phones and other technology from foreign soil.

Sorry charlie, all American.

Chicago based Real Clear Politics has a dismal track record of predicting anything of substance.

I’m old enough to have watched presidential elections in detail since Richard Nixon and in awareness since JFK.

Polls at this time are basically of adults or of registered voters, BUT if reasonably random, they give you an idea of what AVERAGE PEOPLE are thinking.

So, that is why Cruz’s stall is significant. He’s no longer being talked about.

Oh ok, like the Econ professor I had who refused to grade any American with an A (regardless of test scores, class participation, etc.) on the rationale that none of us had to trek through lion territory to get to class? I know many qualified American profs who are basically gypsies, gypsies moreover who would LOVE to have more opportunities to teach.

> “Yes we have had and still have foreign born scientists here in the states but they are very very small in number.”

Back up what you;re saying or go away.

Because you are completely off.

A little less than half of the scientific and engineering faculty of our elite and world ranking universities have professors who are on H1B or were invited and authorized via H1B. Faculty from Oxford University, high level German universities, and from Russia and all over the world are here on H1B and they are not ‘small’ in number.

The number of faculty in the USA is at least 1.5 million and that excludes TAs.

http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes251199.htm

And Ted’s request for a cap of 500,000 is needed to renew those H1Bs and keep the top talent here in the USA.

Ted Cruz will administer the H1B program sternly for the purpose it was intended.

C’MON TROLLS! You can do better!

Sour grapes!

One isolated example does not make a case!

And professors who challenge American students are the best!

Ok TROLLS, you have the thread to yourselves for awhile as I attend to domestic responsibilities.

Let me see when I get back how you vow unto death that Ted Cruz is a RINO who will drive the cheap labor express!

C’mon let’s hear it!

And Ted Cruz is not going to replace or displace American workers with foreign cheap labor.

No the companies who apply for the lion's share of the 500,000 H-1Bs will be doing that.

Replacing or displacing Americans with cheap foreign labor using the H1B program is an ABUSE. That is not the original purpose of the program.

That seems to be the popular opinion. But obviously the companies are operating within the letter of the law, if not the spirit, as they do replace U.S. workers with foreign ones. So how will Ted Cruz prevent that from happening? Does he have a fix for the current law or a new law to replace the current one?

Again Post #30, the H1B program is not the problem, its regulator is the problem and that regulator would be Barack Obama.

H1-Bs have been replacing U.S. workers before Obama came into office and it'll continue after he leaves unless the law is changed. What changes will President Cruz make?

I’ve seen denial before, Hostage. There’s generally nothing gained. Almost always better to deal upfront with problems as they arise.

Cruz has an H1B visa problem. I don’t think he’s addressed it publicly.

True believers like you want your guy so bad that they try to put words in their mouths. I’ve been there. But, the bottom line is this: it’s not Ted Cruz’s explanation until Ted Cruz gives an explanation.

If I recall correctly, the STEM visas were separate from the education visas. I’d have to check on that, but it lurks in the back of my mind as something I’ve read someplace.

The bottom line: Ted Cruz needs to speak up.

This is not an outlier but I do question why “this” company vs mentioning all the other (particularly California) companies that are using H1B visas to replace US based workers.

I submit it is because Disney is far more public than some obscure tech company. OR some company with littler customer or rare customer intereactions.

I think this is an agenda piece on many levels. 1. it is to attempt to soften Disney up for another unionizing run. 2. to attack companies making profits (ie capitalism) 3. inevitably these jobs will be replaced by even more automation and the motivators of this article seek to prevent that.

Speaking of math, the candidate you are slavishly supporting is going to lose, and btw, no amount of bluster, name-calling, and outright b.s. is going to change the underlying facts.

When it comes to using the H-1B to cut costs, Disney is far from an isolated case. The Disney news comes on the heels of multiple reports of corporate layoffs with H-1B replacements, at Southern California Edison, the Fossil Group in Texas, Pfizer and Northeast Utilities in Connecticut, Harley Davidson in Milwaukee and Kansas, and Cargill in Minnesota.

There might be some other reason to highlight Disney, but this article did branch out to other companies doing the same thing, as the above quote shows.

I suspect Disney is the most recent and I think that "Mickey Mouse" in a title is eyecatching, so a good title for grabbing readership.

Oh so you agree that top scientific talent (not IT workers) should be brought to America so that they can be fruitful in America rather than somewhere else.

Except H-1B is used for a lot more than such. There are legal requirements regarding H-1B not being used to displace American workers that are sidestepped. As an older American IT worker, this is a VERY important matter to me, and until Cruz addresses it, he is NOT my top choice for 2016.

You are probably right about this being an agenda piece, but it is a fact that Elvis (or in this case Walt Disney) left the building long ago. Their brand is completely dependent on doing things the right way, being artistically innovative, and being family friendly. The story lines that have been coming out of there in recent years are all about glorifying the philistine overlords and compromising artistic integrity in the service of transient societal nitwittery.

People like Walt Disney are rare. When they are gone it is back to business as usual until the next one comes along.

So the trend I'm seeing is a trimming down of this strategy and a higher priority on American workers at higher pay rates.

I'd like to believe that - in what data are you seeing this trend?

Well said, DoodleDawg. And I am very inclined to support Cruz. But not if he doesn’t re-think his position here regarding H-1B visas. There are already guidelines that are supposed to prevent such abuse. They are sidestepped and ignored. More guidelines will do no good. If we want to keep top research talent, draft specific guidelines for that. Otherwise, the H-1B program should be severely curtailed, not expanded.
