It also impairs other complex skills like landing aircraft even after the high has worn off. But don’t worry, welfare will take care of us.
So in the study, the group that could not LEGALLY get pot had improved numerical skills. Hummm.
I’ll relate this personal story. In the late 70’s, I was in the AF and in civil engineering. We were sent out to housing to clear out a huge water drainage pit (80 ft in diameter, and thirty ft deep)...referred to as a ‘French drain’. In those days, we had a fair number of guys who smoked pot once a week, and a few guys who smoked daily (before even coming to work). “Wolf” was such a guy who smoked daily.
As break came up one morning and we were wrapping up our break....getting back into the crane to clear the pit....some red-headed seven-year old kid who’d been watching us ran up. “Hey Mister, don’t crank it yet....your friend fell into the pit”. Sure enough.....we walked over and there was “Wolf” laying there in the pit. We would have killed the kid if we’d lowered the crane into it.
We get “Wolf” out and he’s all dazed but OK. We ask what the problem was and he’d focused-out (just an hour after he’d smoked pot)....and got dizzy....falling in. After this episode...the three of us non-potheads decided that was the last time that “Wolf” came with us for this particular job. We gave the boss some fake reason and got “Wolf” off the team.
What bothers me....even to this day...is that here I am....clear-headed....and I might accidentally kill some dope who was all pumped up on weed who wasn’t paying attention. If they’d just smoke their pot in the evening hours....I wouldn’t much care. But they are stupid enough to smoke right before coming to work. What does that say?
