Gallup: Pro-lifers at lowest number since 2008

NASHVILLE (BP) -- Abortion pro-choicers significantly outnumber pro-lifers in the U.S. for the first time in seven years, according to the Gallup 2015 Values and Beliefs poll.

Half of Americans identified themselves as pro-choice in the poll that has since 2001 tracked Americans' views on abortion. The last time pro-choicers accounted for such a large chunk of the populace was in 2008, when they also numbered 50 percent.

Of those polled, 44 percent identified themselves as pro-life, the same percentage found in 2008, Gallup reported.

"The pro-choice view is not as prevalent among Americans as it was in the mid-1990s, but the momentum for the pro-life position that began when Barack Obama took office has yielded to a pro-choice rebound," Gallup concluded. "That rebound has essentially restored views to where they were in 2008; today's views are also similar to those found in 2001."

Southern Baptist Convention President Ronnie Floyd said the faithful must be vigilant in holding to the biblical worldview that human life begins at conception.

"Any decline in America's commitment to the unborn child, will lead toward an accelerating desecration of human life, resulting in more abuse, more violence, and more chaotic disruption," Floyd told Baptist Press in a written statement. "God has created us to bring Him glory. When we devalue human life in any way from the womb to the tomb, we are robbing God of His intended glory for each of us."

For most of the past five years, Americans have been almost evenly divided between pro-life and pro-choice, except in 2012 when pro-lifers numbered 50 percent as compared to 41 percent pro-choice, Gallup reported.

Among other results of the poll, 54 percent of women identify themselves as pro-choice, compared to 46 percent of men. Politically, 31 percent of Republicans identify as pro-choice, almost unchanged from 30 percent in 2008; 50 percent of Independents identify as pro-choice, down from 54 percent in 2008, and 68 percent of Democrats identify as pro-choice, up from 59 percent in 2008.

The telephone survey polled 1,024 adults 18 and older in the 50 states and D.C., with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points, Gallup said.

Despite a decline in pro-lifers, abortion rates in the U.S. were lower in 2011 than they've been since the 1970s, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) said in its 2015 State of Abortion in the U.S. States report in January.

After the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, abortions rose to 1.5 million a year by 1980 and peaked at 1.6 million in 1990, but began dropping in subsequent years, NRLC reported, and were down to just over a million in 2011.

"There is a long way to go, but it is clear that we have made a lot of progress," NRLC said in its report. "Abortions in the United States today are down to levels not seen since the 1970s, when the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.

"Declining abortion rates and ratios show that this is not merely a statistical anomaly," NRLC said. Since 1973, an estimated 57 million unborn babies have been aborted.

One gay marriage was accepted, abortion was locked in.

I am 100% confident that this barbaric practice will eventually be outlawed and looked back upon as the crime against humanity that it truly is.

All those politicians that support it now will regret it when the history books are written and they are made out to be bigger monsters than the Nazi’s

[ Polls are intended to influence the stupid. ]

Probably a push poll with questions designed to make the person answering them think that if they say yes they are a monster.

Example: Would you use force to keep a mother from terminating her pregnancy in the first trimester even it meant you had to tie her to a chair in a dark smelly basement?

Yes.... WHY YOU MONSTER!!!

Well, I'd agree with you if the politicians had a single shred of decency and integrity.

The reality is that many will just shrug it off, and continue their lies that "well, I was personally against it, but I was elected to implement the will of the people..."

(And the rest of them will claim that they were always fighting against it, mountains of evidence to the contrary.)

I personally feel there are three occasions when abortion should be legal.

1. Incest
2. Rape
3. Saving the life of the mother.

I don't know anything about these 1,000+ people that were polled in Washington DC (cesspool) and the rest of the country, but what I do know is this:

My sons and every single one of their friends when asked about abortion are all staunchly PRO-LIFE. Boys and Girls. They're all 18-19 years old.

I think this poll is bullshit, and I'm hopeful that the next generation actually gets it right and values LIFE.

This country is ruled by the media.

Never underestimate its power to shape opinion.

Galllup is on a tear to destroy the culture.

I don’t care what they report. I do not think they are any more trustworthy than the IRS or Hillary.

Enough.

Every year, every January, in DC, on the anniversary of Roe V Wade decision, the rally is at 400,000 people and it GROWs every year.

Gallup can poll the mainstream media to find out how many of them refuse to broadcast that.

57 million killed in abortions since 1973 is correct.

The opinion of that from those who refuse to acknowledge or face that fact is worthless.

Before discussing your exceptions, I would ask you why should ANY abortion be illegal, tell me why with the most passion you can muster. Then tell me about your "exceptions."

You are correct. By the standards of Natural Law, societal moral acceptance of legalized abortion will end. It just will.

It will overshadow much of what is bad about our history.

Hitler would have killed 57,000,000 people, but it’s still a number that is a whole lot higher than his numbers.

Brainwashing by the media. There are too many numb sculls that are more concerned with gay marriage the Khardashians, the Duggars, Bruce (does he have a pecker) Caitlyn Jenna etc. than Christian extermination or abortion.

Absolutely.

Two or three weeks ago all the polls were saying just the opposite. America was firmly pro-life and becoming more so each year. Traditional conservative values were on the up-swing here and around the world, and the Democrat brand was faltering.

Today's a different story.

The MSM has a two fold interest in this type of reporting.

First the shifting back and forth drums up interest in their pizz poor product. The shifts are getting more frequent but the target audience (L.I.V.) don't seem to notice/care (we have always been at war with Eastasia).

And secondly, the complete fabrication of the news (e.g. today they're saying that Hillary is wildly popular among the 16-19 year old age group) is used wherever needed in an attempt to demoralize whatever group they, the MSM, is attacking at that time.

After the wildly inaccurate predictions that were made by "trusted MSM pollsters" around the world in elections during the last year, it's amazing that anyone pays anymore attention to these clowns than they do to the "All Global Warming-All the Time" weather forecasters.

The world's news services are simply a joke.

It’s barbaric to dismember and murder an innocent person for the crime of their father.

In my opinion, abortion just to end a pregnancy should NOT be legal...
A person should take responsibility for their actions if an unwanted pregnancy develops from consensual encounters.
