WASHINGTON The Democratic presidential candidate Martin OMalley wants to raise capital gains taxes. His rival Bernie Sanders seeks to tax stock trades and increase personal income tax rates.
Indeed, Mr. Sanderss plan harks back to the Eisenhower-era top rate of over 90 percent more than twice todays level. Asked whether that rate is obviously too high, Mr. Sanders responded simply, No.
Their stances partly reflect attempts to outflank Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic race for the presidential nomination. Mrs. Clinton herself is considering a friendly think tanks advice to raise taxes on inherited wealth and close loopholes to collect more from affluent Americans.
But they also reflect a broader shift in tax politics that is rippling through the Republican world, too. Pressure to raise taxes, at least on the wealthy, is rising.

Socialism does not work...thump...socialism does not work..thump...socialism does not work...thump...socialism does not work...
Didn’t the fiscal cliff resolution already raise the capital gains tax back to 20 percent?
THE STUPID . . . IT BURNS!!!
Maryland “Freak State” DANG!
Go ahead, RINOs — raise taxes and test your idea that lowering taxes is a waning idea.
Try it. I dare you.
No matter how badly high taxes destroy an economy, liberals will just keep saying it’s because taxes aren’t high enough.
They should just admit that they want government running the economy, which it is pretty much doing already.
And, with the magnificent incompetence of the government, the economy, obviously, will head toward collapse in this state.
At this point, the dem candidates are only competing to out-pander to the dem base to win the primary, so the more communist they sound the better. When the winner goes into the actual presidential race, (s)he will pretend to be a bit closer to the middle. Carter was pretty effective with his primary pitch to dems of ‘vote for me and together we will ‘get’ the rich’. When forced to define ‘rich’ he initially said anyone making $14k a year. After a pit of fall-out, he raised the level of rich to starting at $19k.
IMHO the Tobin Tax (per-transaction tax on Wall Street) and increasing Social Security payroll tax to the last penny of income are virtually inevitable. They never poll less than 75% approval with the low-infos.
Is that really Cruz’ campaign logo?
Reminds me of the Atlanta Olympics.
Why?
We know they dont care about balancing the budget or sound monetary policy.
Why not just go ahead and quantitatively ease some money in to existence some more.
It is nothing more than electioneering. Even though the richest people on Earth are Socialist Democrats the party of the Rich are in this country is assumed to be Republican.
So every time Presidential politics comes in to season it is time to attack the Rich.
Cruz is the only one running that I believe will really undertake the deep cleaning that so needed doing after Clinton.
He’s certainly not going to let liberal whining get in the way of purging liberal activist judges from the federal bench.
I have two questions I’d like the Democrat candidates to answer:
(1) What level of taxation is ideal? Once and for all, let’s establish how much taxation you actually want.
(2) Why don’t you just run for office on your ideal tax levels?
These socialist ‘rats have a one-track mind: more money, more power, more control, bigger government. Hey libtard lurkers out there, let me borrow one of bammy’s favorite words: unsustainable. Your entire approach to society and governance is unsustainable. What are you going to do when you hit 100% tax rate? What happens when there simply is no more money, or power, or control to be accumulated?
Bumper sticker material!
Need some mo money to pay for gibs-me-dat stuff.
LOLARMAOOTF
Our tax and spend guvnah Wolf here in Pennsyltucky sent his new plan to the legislature this week, and it was shot down without getting even ONE supporting vote.
Why? Because the real working people in PA, and especially in his own home county (York County) did NOT vote for him. The layabouts and gimmedats in Philthydelphia and Pittsburgh elected Wolf.
