Hunting for Hackers, N.S.A. Secretly Expands Internet Spying at U.S. Border
NYT ^ | June 4, 2015 | CHARLIE SAVAGE & others

Without public notice or debate, the Obama administration has expanded the National Security Agency’s warrantless surveillance of Americans’ international Internet traffic to search for evidence of malicious computer hacking, according to classified N.S.A. documents.

In mid-2012, Justice Department lawyers wrote two secret memos permitting the spy agency to begin hunting on Internet cables, without a warrant and on American soil, for data linked to computer intrusions originating abroad — including traffic that flows to suspicious Internet addresses or contains malware, the documents show.

The Justice Department allowed the agency to monitor only addresses and “cybersignatures” — patterns associated with computer intrusions — that it could tie to foreign governments. But the documents also note that the N.S.A. sought permission to target hackers even when it could not establish any links to foreign powers.

To me this is what the NSA charter calls for: Monitoring hostile foreign powers for the protection of America. Any domestic monitoring without a court order is an illegal violation of the charter.

Before everyone foams at the mouth, read the article.

The attacks:
Originate from overseas
Contain malicious traffic (viruses, Trojans, malware, etc)
Are attacking US computers on US soil.

This is what the NSA SHOULD be doing. Monitoring attacks against the US.

I’m tired of the NY Times exposing our most important electronic surveillance programs.

The “Old Gray Lady” is now, and has been for a long time, “The Old Red Lady”, and has done immeasurable harm to our security. Witness “9/11” and our “fire-wall” measures before it that prevented our intelligence agencies from thoroughly communicating their work with each other.

The NYTs , Wash. Post, LA Times etc. continually published exposes on American intelligence programs which did tremendous harm to our country.

As an internal security journalist and former undercover operative, I literally cried when I saw how the Communists and their liberal media/congressional allies torn down our security barriers and abolished agencies (esp. congressional), that were doing great work exposing our domestic and foreign enemies.

Bill Ayres is a longtime friend of the President while FBI agents are threatened with arrest/prosecution for doing their jobs.

What is wrong with this picture?

Interesting this comes out the same day we learn that “nearly every Federal agency” has been hacked by the Chinese.
