BALTIMORE - The leadership of Baltimore’s police union is seeking all communications between the department’s command staff and City Hall executives as they investigate the handling of the recent riots and unrest.
Lt. Gene Ryan, president of FOP Lodge #3, said the union filed a Freedom of Information Act for all departmental communication tapes, command staff text messages and emails from April 27 to May 4. That request was made on May 29, Ryan said, and he has not received any response as of Wednesday.
Ryan added that these moves are part of the union conducting an “After Action Review” of the riots, which he said has the full cooperation of many of his members who were deployed to the front lines during the crisis.
"Everyone is pointing fingers as to what happened," Ryan said. "I've decided that we are the ones that need to take action so no more men and women in the Baltimore City Police Department get hurt if anything like this ever happens again."
In all, Ryan said, more than 160 police officers and scores of firefighters were injured in the recent riots in Baltimore City. Ryan said this action was taken after waiting for the police department to establish its own after action review. Once that didn't occur, Ryan said, the union moved forward to help ensure the safety of their officers.

It’s gonna be a long, hot summer in Baltimore....and if, by some miracle, the Orioles make the playoffs, well...no games will be played in Camden Yards..
Good. Assuming the higher ups don’t pull a Lois Lerner or Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, Vallerie Jarrett, and Rawlings-Blake should be exposed for the race-baiting, riot-inducing rabble rousers they are.
Still, I have serious doubts the most damning communications will see the light of day. If we’re lucky Rudy Guiliani will chime in.
I’d predict the same thing.....all games end up at National’s stadium in DC for the O’s....if they get that far.
Civilians have a mutual interest in police not being targeted.

Does it occur to you that someone might be genuinely worried about police AND firefighters being injured?

It’s a union—that’s what they do.

I’m not much of a union man, but something like this does give me a tinge of appreciation for what they can do...
