Nevada's Republican governor, Brian Sandoval, secured an unlikely victory when the conservative state Legislature approved a huge tax increase at his urging as part of a plan to boost education spending.

The $1.1 billion package raises taxes on businesses and cigarettes, and it makes permanent a $500 million bundle of temporary payroll and sales taxes.

Geez. I could've sworn that during the last (s)election we voted the nearly identical tax hike down by a decently large enough margin on the ballot. We also thought we (s)elected a majority of republicrats in the assembly and senate so a more conservative agenda would be nearly a shoe in. You know, gun rights, budget tightening, blah, blah, blah. Guess I musta been dreamin'. Doesn't do much good to threaten to "remember this" next (s)election. Who ya gonna get? Back to the libs or more turncoats.

No presidential primary.
No campus carry.
No parental notification.
No Cliven Bundy lands bill.
No hope for GOP keeping both houses.

I could understand if the increase in spending in education was accompanied by major education reform (charter schools). Throwing good after bad money is just stupid, especially for the GOP. Disgusting!

One of the new breed of “hispanic conservatives”.

Made temporary taxes permanent? Increased other taxes to give more baby sitting money to the teachers union to benefit his Raza?

Yessirree, real Republican that guy.

No doubt. If the gopE assembly and senate did us this much of a dis-service this session, how much damage can tick and his butties do in the next session when they’re back in charge? Squandered comes to my feeble little mind. Hey, maybe even justin jones can get re-elected and back on bloombergs payroll. Of course if the intergalactic background check initiative passes on the next ballot he won’t have much to do.

Has it ever been considered that the way to improve education (results) would be to cut funding? If the budgets were tightened there would be sufficient incentive to fight the unions, shave the administrative fat and get rid of under-performing teachers (who were only there for easy salaries and benefits).

I have voted against every school budget proposal for the last 25 years.

The sad thing is he is a real Republican. That is what republicans are. They are Progressive socialists whereas Democrats have advanced to being full bore communist.

This is the guy Republican operatives are swooning over to run for Dingy Harry’s seat next year?

Not a good sign.

This is happening all over the country.

SD just passed the largest tax increase in it’s history, with a roads and bridges bill. The Education folks are screaming so loudly that next year the Governor is likely to push through another increase with education as the subject.

Nah. He’s just a Mexican.

Being El Patron, he has to pass out goodies to the Pobrecitos.

That’s Latin culture. You can dress it up as “socialism” and put all kinds of other pretty words around it but it’s gangsterism and it’s been around for millennia.

The smoking ruins of all the Latin empires can be traced in part to this.

Unfortunately some Eastern European dimwits bought into it as well and that is pretty much how their countries ended up being run down, beat up, dismal, gray, collapsing etc.

We’ll just call Senor Sandoval “Tio Pinata” cuz he brings the goodies.

Of course as the evil WASP female known as Thatcher said, “eventually you run out of other people’s money...”
