What's behind Putin's 86% Approval Rating?

Russia’s dictator Vladimir Putin is basking in the glow of an unheard-of 86% approval rating. But his popularity has not stemmed from the people’s contentment or any monumental achievement of their leader. His boat has been lifted by the rising tide of insane hatred for America and Ukraine sweeping Russia. Hysterical chauvinism flogged by TV has brought the Russian people to a fever pitch, demonstrating the monumental power of propaganda.

Renowned Russian opposition journalist Vladimir Yakovlev, in a recent article published in his Russian-language Mulbabar blog, explained the mechanism of the current propaganda campaign designed to keep the Russian people focused on the external enemy and oblivious to their country’s sorry condition.

In Soviet times, every college in Russia had a military chair, something like our ROTC but compulsory. It was an important incentive for the Soviet youth, because military training as part of the college curriculum was a sure way of avoiding the hated conscription. Military training was geared to the specific educational profile of each institute of higher learning. At Yakovlev’s alma mater, the Moscow State University School of Journalism, the students were trained, in an atmosphere of utmost secrecy, in the art of “combat special propaganda,” the methods of sowing discord in the enemy ranks by means of disinformation and mind-bending.

Combat, or “black,” propaganda is a highly effective weapon of distorting real facts with a view to achieving the propagandist’s goals. Here are some of the methods the future Soviet journalists were taught and today’s Russian propagandists use with such astonishing success.

Duh.

If I was Russian and got a call “Do you approve of Putin” on my phone, I’d say “yes,” as I duck the likely sniper in the window.

It’s correlative of how liberals poll better than voting shows — people are afraid to be publicly conservative. It’s counterculture.

No big mystery — anytime a ruler gets that popular in the “polls,” there is a cowed media and a cowed populace that is afraid to speak out.

His boat has been lifted by the rising tide of insane hatred for America and Ukraine sweeping Russia. Case in point:

In the East there is someone that causes the western liberal's maniacal laughter to stop. Vladimir Putin. He has real world power, which causes the liberal media to fearfully ignore or warp his image. Like a good Christian King he leads a nation to Christ. Deep down in their evil souls they shriek like devils because they know Christ is true God and true power that they cannot defeat. They thought the Bolshevik revolution destroyed Holy Mother Russia. Christ cannot be defeated and his servant Putin has welcomed Christ and His church.
-- from the thread US threatened by Russia's Christianity
The anti-Christian Obama has allied himself with Al-Qaeda rebels in Syria where 2 Bishops are still held captive, priests and other Christians are martyred. This is the "Hope and Change" he promised. Those who voted for Obama are held responsible as though they pulled the trigger or swung the blade to decapitate. It will go worse for those who are Christian leaders who ignore the martyrs of the East. Why are they not at the White House everyday protesting to spare the Christians and stop the violence?

Gee, it sure is a good thing the 0bama/Jarrett/msm oligarchs don’t operate this way here in the US!

I bet Russia even fabricates their own economic reports to fool the masses into thinking everything is fine.

No idea what Putin’s actual approval rating is, but I think many Americans and others in the West underestimated the Russians desire to be a world power, an important nation, and more than we might think mourned the demise of the USSR.

A lot of Putin’s approval is that he still makes noise and makes moves internationally as if Russia is still a major power. And many Russians like that.

Not making excuses for Putin’s bad behavior in the international realm, but the fact is that he obviously cares about Russia.

He may be harming Russia in the long run with all this aggression, but at least he is a man who takes pride in his homeland.

Compare that to BO, who obviously despises these United States.
