Three coal-fired power plants in West Virginia have shut down operations.
Media outlets report that Appalachian Power's Kanawha River Power Station at Glasgow, the Kammer Power Station near Moundsville and the Phillip Sporn Power Station at New Haven were closed Sunday.
Appalachian Power had announced in 2011 that it planned to close the plants, along with three coal-fired plants in Virginia, Ohio and Indiana. The company had said it would be cost-prohibitive to equip them to comply with new federal emission standards for mercury and other hazardous air pollutants. Another coal-fired plant in Virginia is being converted to natural gas.
In March, the company sent notices regarding the West Virginia plant closures to the state and to employees.
I got a letter from my electric company that my already sky-rocketing electric bill will be going up another 15% in order to pay for government mandated infrastructure upgrades.
Brown-outs and black-outs on the way. Thanks, Obama!
Isn’t that comment raciss?
Another campaign promise made by Obama ...fulfilled... Skyrocketing energy costs.
They got the sulfur out pretty quick but the mercury has taken a long time and it is not certain now because SCOTUS has to make a ruling(this month)
A lot of states have already imposed the tighter stds on mercury.
Next up, the Federal Government will begin Construction of Massive Fans all along the West Coast to blow the smoke from China’s Coal Fired Power Plants back to them.
Got the same letter from our electric company, which is implementing a 10% hike (it had originally asked the Public Utility Commission for 20%).
But the coal miners voted Democrat anyway.
