even anti-tax Republicans are acknowledging that there is not much more to cut without significantly hurting popular programs, including education.
who are these Republicans? If they aren’t named then this statement is PSY-OPS from the Dems.
“...they are agonizing over the likelihood of doing something that did not seem to be in their DNA: raising taxes.”
Yeah, the party that brought you, H.W. “Read my lips” Bush has problems raising taxes.
Because the NY Times always accurately portrays gov't spending issues - particular where Republicans are involved.
Something not enough state legislatures are considering is this rather simple but powerful action:
revoke the tax exemption of state colleges and universities
They are grossly political partisan and profit making.
They deserve to be taxed. I think many states could advance their budgets strongly by doing this.
I’d be okay with them taxing the People’s Republic of Lawrence.
That is a fabulous idea. I am also all for that.
Why should they complain? They want to the government to have more money.
The Old Gray Streetwalker of Journalism should help guide Kansas to the kind of massive budget supluses that New York City and New York State enjoy.

Doubled up. Rats
My sister and her husband built a farm in Kansas in the last 5 years. They are both conservative. She said that if it “moves” in Kansas, then it is taxed. She lived a long time in California, but she is “impressed” with how thorough Kansas is in taxing everything.
They could cut spending.
But that would be racist.
I guess you little people are just going to have to work harder. :)
it’s always ‘raise taxes’ ... it’s never ‘cut spending’
“...they are agonizing over the likelihood of doing something that did not seem to be in their DNA:”
What is it? Could it be that they are finally going to get the government back to its basic function? That would reduce the budget down about 75%.
Could it be? NAH! That ain’t gonna ever happen.
HOw about cutting worthless gub mint?
Which means eliminating damn near ALL of it!
These indispensable “popular programs” are the gas stations on the highway to hell.
