Russia has just taken another step toward pernicious use of the law to buttress the authoritarian whims of its leader.
Both houses of parliament recently passed legislation that would allow the government to label as "undesirable" in effect, to outlaw any foreign or international organizations deemed a threat to the "defensive capabilities or security of the state, to the public order, or to the health of the population."

...or to the health of the population.
The ACLU! Oh, in Russia...darn.
It can be redeemed at the bank of Obama.
IBTPBLLD
In Before the Putin Boot Licking Lap Dogs.
Good one: IBTPBLLD; they’re worse than Obama’s butt kissers.
Oh, wait . . .
We call these Executive Orders. It makes totalitarianism more efficient, without all those messy political votes.
“allow the government to label as “undesirable” in effect, to outlaw any foreign or international organizations deemed a threat to the “defensive capabilities or security of the state, to the public order, or to the health of the population.”
If foreign and international orgs are working to change a nations government, or to spread homosexuality (the biggest goal) it would seem natural to ban them.
For example, I want the UN banned here. And I would support Kenya banning American NGOs and government state dept types who are working to spread homosexuality.
But I guess now foreigners have a right to undermine the stability and morals of their host. I wish we had a similar law.
Can we do that here so we can kick out the UN?
If it’s so dear to you, have you considered relocating to Russia. That would keep the fags from getting you, too.
You just cannot stand to see Putin criticized. It hurts you. You’re like an Obamabot who gets angry when Obama’s errors are exposed.
While Putin is going about it in the wrong way, in all fairness, what are the NGOs and foreign organizations he wants to boot out?
There is a very long list of harmful NGOs and other organizations that have made themselves obnoxious around the world:
Anything connected with the leftist billionaires such as George Soros, Teresa Heinz-Kerry, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Tom Steyer, Jim Simons, Michael Bloomberg, etc.
How about banning Planned Parenthood?
I’ve criticized Putin plenty, just not for every little thing he does.
Dear god, can we skip the whack job childish insults for once? My point was fair and if you have a reason that it is wrong, id prefer you to just explain it.
The law seems to be aimed at foreign organizations who want to undermine their laws. Is you contention that an organization has a right to freely operate in any country it chooses?
Do you think America should be able to keep out foreign organizations that do not follow our rules.
Think for example of the “election monitors” who come from other countries to Texas polling places. Think of Palestinian west bank boiler rooms ginning up money for Obama. Think of Chinese money for the Clintons. And yes, I think its a good goal for them to stop Americas insane zeal for spreading homosexuality in their country.
But seriously, I don’t want to just swap insult today. What is your honest point of view on why this law is bad?
And apologies for my typos. I’m fighting a sticky keyboard where I am at the moment!
Yes - you are right. Those NGOs prolonged the war in Sir Lanka - they did everything the could to keep the war from being over (needed for fund raising?).
I like people to be free - but lets say some Chinese group was in the USA trying to overthrow the government - might be a good idea to send them packing.
I don’t like standing up for the Russians - they are thugs (not THAT much different than the thugs in Washington) - but this article was just propaganda.
“Those NGOs prolonged the war in Sir Lanka”
Who are you thinking of? I wasn’t aware of their role there.
He is a thug and a jerk but he's not wrong about the NGOs.
He is well aware that the KGB used them to undermine the west for years to great effect. He has no intention of letting them do it to him.
