Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) moved Thursday to end debate on two bills authorizing the National Security Agency's surveillance programs, setting up a pair of rare votes Saturday in the Senate.
McConnell filed cloture on the House-passed USA Freedom Act, which would reform the NSA programs. That bill passed the House in a 338-88 vote, but has run into resistance from McConnell and other GOP senators.

McConnell is setting the vote for Saturday to pressure the Repubs in the Senate to vote for this nasty bill. All the Senators want to get out of D.C. for Memorial Day to press the flesh of we gullible voters & pick up bags of cash from donors.

Watch the Cloture Weasels, Cornyn especially. They’ll vote FOR cloture to move this forward, then vote against the bill on the floor, all the while knowing that it will pass once itgot past cloture. Then, they’ll publicly thump their chests about how they were “against” this terrible bill, return to the Senate Cloak Room and receive Mitch’s pat on the back.
The only way this practice will stop is if every member of the NSA is hanging from a tree.
